28/8/2011 “Let them eat cake”

August 28, 20113

It’s a mega blog today ( Usual blog + France update, + Istanbul update)

Today’s turnout: 67 swimmers + 7 new swimmers + 40 muffins

(Maureen Rath Only T bagged so she didn’t get a tick!)

I did say today was going to be a good day to swim and I’m pleased to say the prediction came true. Thanks to everyone for turning up.  A really nice swim, especially for the 7 first timers, it was so nice I even swam both ways!

There was talk of badges this morning so I’m guessing a few more people can sleep easy tonight knowing its in the bag. Jenny Rees celebrated her 20th swim by cooking mini muffins for everyone so once again; Manly wine was host to another coffee and cake morning. Dave Page also got his 20th in.

Istanbul (Not Constantinople)

An update from our overseas friends.

Everyone was in safe hands today with Mahdi taking the lead from our tour guide, asking him which language he would like her to lead us in, after replying Arabic Mahdi very proudly delivered the numbers 1-5 fluently 🙂 and then convinced nearly the whole team that we each needed a Bulgari watch, 3 of which broke as soon as we tried to set the time, a minor detail I know 😉

A couple of open top bus tours showed us all around, and a visit to the Cistern enabled us to find some fish which as Izzy sadly pointed out would never have seen the sun 🙁

Our queen shoppers made the most of a big afternoon at the grand bazaar, followed by a show and tell at evening drinks on our roof top terrace over looking the Blue Mosque no less 😉

Not too many fluids consumed this evening as we are now apparently in training…  but don’t mention the war as it’s now known!

‘D Day’ is Tuesday and it has taken on a new meaning or two; fondly ‘Darndaelles Day’ hopefully not to be ‘Drowning Day’.

Rosemary arrived safely this afternoon so we are a full team now and we’re all looking forward our own private cruise of the Bosphorous tomorrow morning 🙂

Until tomorrow… enjoy, we miss you, but not to much 😉

Check out our blue groupers, or some such fish, in the Cistern !  As Izzy pointed out, these poor fish would have never seen daylight 🙁

All of us except Michael A and Rosemary who arrived this arvo, so we are a full team now

I have found Private Tours in Turkey and well all ı can say is thank you to all the team. Our stay without any trouble, nothing to stress about as everything was organized by the team. I went with my huge family to Turkey and we wanted to enjoy and have a perfect stay. We made our reservations about 3 months before our departure, so we would be sure everything would be prepared ahead of time http://www.privatetoursinistanbul.com We did not know what we wanted to do and visit, and they helped us to put an itinerary for our 4 days in Istanbul (8 days total in Turkey). They are a unique tour company offering fun and affordable tours of the major attractions along the Turkey. Their tour guides share the incredible gems the city has to offer. They know their history and share unusual facts and interesting information about cities. Travelers who are looking for more than a boring history lesson will enjoy the guides’ sense of humor and passion. During the tours instructors and guides provided one-on-one interest to every participant. They also made some recommendations on good, affordable restaurants and places to stay also. We probably would not have found by ourselves, or maybe with days and days of research. From several hours to several days, you can try to make both private and group tours in Turkey with this company. Try this fun and exciting way to discover new places. They have provided us the most valuable, interesting and appealing attractions of Turkey, we definitely had a good time which we relish to re-experience through their best services.
