16/11/2011 – Early Delights

November 16, 201116

119 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

43 people enjoyed a colourful Bolderdash to Queenscliff and back this morning including a couple of first timers; David Vaughan, Hanna Birks, John Forster, Julie Cameron-Doe, Michael Munro and Michelle Harris.

Our Pac Leader, Neil Cowin was a stand out this morning, making it all the way to Queenscliff Headland and continuing on for the regular Shelly swim to be first to the beach – fantastic Neil you’re an inspiration to all of us, keep up the great swimming… summer 10km badge here we come 😉

The regular swim was, as usual, beautiful, tranquil and full of smiling pink faces.

The last photo of Jade Harkness enjoying a quick rest at Shelly with her sister, Britt and Father John is courtesy of Stephen Coulter.

Thanks to Tim and Linda from Manly Mac Art, our highly saught after B&B Calendars have arrived from the printers !  I will have some available every morning at swimming so please bring your $12 if you would like one, or alternatively order
them online here

A quick reminder that it’s the 2011 Manly Inflatable Boat Race this Sunday, with a 10:30am kick off.  Please note that pre-registration is a must – so if you haven’t done so already print out the attached form, and return by fax, scan, or take a photo on your phone and email it in.  You’ll see a map on the form too so you’ll know where to find them….

All funds raised are generously given to Tour De Cure and Red Kite charities. Check out the Facebook event page to keep you up to date.

The race is followed by a BBQ at The Steyne Hotel, so all in all it looks like being a great day.  If you’re keen to be involved but don’t want to participate directly feel free to go down and lend a hand with water safety.

Tim’s fact of the day: “Octopuses swim by shooting water out behind them.  Just like letting a balloon go that is filled up with air.”

Water Temperature 21.0 degrees.
Air Temperature 19.5 degrees.
Sunrise 5.43am.
Sunset 7.36pm.
Low Tide: 5.55am.
High Tide: 12.23pm.

Anyone up for an unofficial Bolderdash tomorrow?
Doing it when it doesn’t count to the Pacific Challenge just feels so much more virtuous!!!
BRENDAN? I just know you’ll be there… Ian? James? The Usual Suspects…

Really interesting fish in Gaetan’s photo yesterday (sorry to be so late commenting – I have been out of action with 2nd. eye op., back next week). I think, because of its beautiful blue colour, it’s Aluterus scriptus, the scribbled LJ, a very close relative of the one he mentioned, A. monoceros, the unicorn LJ. I have never seen it before and it’s exciting because they are tropical species and not so often seen down South. Let’s hope it means we are going to see a whole lot more tropicals coming in, much earlier than usual (global warming?). Wonderful photography as usual, Gaetan.

Just to follow on from my post above, the OzMus website doesn’t have a photo of a scribbled LJ. Gaetan, why not send this to Mark – he can also be the final arbiter of its ID.

Thanks for your comments, it’s good to have you back in the world of communication, will be even better to have you back in the water 🙂
Hope the op went well ??
I’ve emailed you the photo, please feel free to forward it on and of course the OzMus would be welcome to use it if they wish.
Please let us know what Mark thinks it is, thank you !
