A fresh start to the morning with the water sitting at 17.9°C. It certainly felt crisp on arrival, but by 7.20am the sun had broken through and it was shaping up to be one of those glorious winter days that reminds us why we love being here.

The ocean had plenty of energy this morning. With a low tide, a persistent rip still running, and solid 2–4 foot sets breaking well beyond the point, it was a morning for caution rather than a leisurely swim. Even so, a few determined swimmers ventured out, while the legendary Drinks Express powered through the rough conditions, giving Lish and me a cheerful wave as we watched from the point.

Many others chose the calmer waters of Shelly, proving once again that whatever Manly Beach has in store, there’s always somewhere to enjoy the salt water safely. Whether it’s a full swim, a gentle paddle or simply a quick dunk, you never regret getting in. Sometimes that little moment in the ocean is exactly what the soul needs.

Wishing everyone a beautiful day ahead and, if you’re heading into the water, choose the conditions that suit you and enjoy another sparkling winter morning by the sea.
