Over 84 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
The sea was lovely and calm this morning with our regular friends out to accompany us: 4 of the healthy dusky whalers, lovely large blue groupers, batfish, catfish, stingrays, fiddler rays to name only a few.
A message below from Jane Stevenson, our resident B&B vet and fish namer from the Australian museum, I’m sure some of you will be only to happy to oblige…
“I’m sure most people have seen the Batfish (a.k.a. Diamond Fish), Monodactylus argenteus, which are hanging out around Manly Point at the moment. The Australian Museum would like to put a photo of it on its Fish website and I thought there may be keen photographers out there who could give it a go. Shots from the side, and also from above to show how flattened it is, would be great.
The Oz Mus is also looking for photos showing fish injured or killed by rubbish in the water, e.g plastic bags, fishing lines and hooks etc.
Any images used will be acknowledged if you are happy to have your name attached.”
Happy birthday to Alison Christie and Sandy McIndoe 🙂

Hi Gaetan – those photos are really impressive – the Silver Batfish are superb, much better than any photos I’ve seen in the textbooks. Thanks so much. Mark McGrouther, director of the Fish Collection at the OzMus, will be over the moon. I’ll let you know how the photos go when Mark is back from field work (collecting specimens) in a week’s time. We can ID some more of the photos if you like. What is your full name for acknowledgement?

Gaetan I will forward you Jane’s email address offline in case Jane isn’t comfortable publishing it to the world.
Thanks heaps for helping Jane and the Australian Museum out with photos. How exciting to think your photos may end up on their website 🙂
