72 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
What a swim for the last official Bolderdash of the summer… the four guys who braved the dark were rewarded with more darkness as they neared Queenscliff. The water turned brown and the visibility reduced to arm length so they turned a little short, fair enough too.
As you can see from the colour or lack there of in all of today’s photos, it’s another grey day. There’s plenty of raindrops but they don’t stop the smiles 🙂
Chris was very happy to be back in the water after about 4 weeks off. Sarah was enjoying experimenting with Stephen’s new Garmin (I’m sure we’ll see Sarah’s ‘statistics’ via a comment soon) and there was a lot of splash to be made 😉
The swim was calm and lovely, at least to start with until blue kinda became green…
To view the Garmin report of my swim today click on the link below. I pressed ‘stop’ instead of ‘lap’ at Shelly (whoops) so it shows the swim to Shelly and back as one split instead of two.

The point is a popular place at 7am, check out the second photo below… Stephen took an array of lovely distance shots for us… it looks like he may have enjoyed a coffee half way along this morning 🙂
Even though we are in mid summer, yes really we are… Stephen has found this website with tips of how to acclimatise to cold water. So you have plenty of time to read up and get ready for your winter swimming. We can expect a rise in the number of ‘winter without wetsuit’ badges this year then ??
Happy birthday to Patrick Coleman today 🙂

Do you have some crazy entry for Sarah’s weight and height as she seems to have burnt soooo many more calories than me 🙁

I checked out the website containing tips on how to acclimatise to cold water and I’m LOVING the part about needing a bit of extra weight (fat) to help you stay warm. See Ian, there is a real benefit to my ‘subcutaneous wetsuit’!

Good call by Alex this morning to pull up 150m short of Queenscliff, which is a no go zone, as a lot of dirty water is coming out of the lagoon.
For the 6k tomorrow, I suggest we do Shelly and back four times or go out round the Bower towards Bluefish and back, conditions permitting.

Interesting article in SMH regarding the value of marine preserves.

Look I am a chicken. Dirty brown fresh water tick early morning tick lots of water movement tick. Me outa there. The lagoon was emptying and worse than Noahs I really don’t like swimming in sewerage. Go to Noosa for that. Alex P.

It also might be that her height and weight are identical to mine! 🙂

I think I was tactful enough not to infer that you had a ‘subcutaneous wetsuit’. I think I was talking about mine. However, since you mention it – no excuses for not swimming through winter now!! You’ll love it.
