There are mornings when the ocean calls you in, and there are mornings when it simply asks you to sit for a while.
After being unwell, I hadn’t been down to the point for a little while. This morning wasn’t about swimming to Shelly or clocking up another kilometre. In fact, I didn’t even get my feet wet.

Instead, I found myself sitting on the rock ledge with my buddy Lisha, watching the first light creep across the water.
We waved to the Drinks Express & the Bold & Beautiful 7amers as they headed out, watched swimmers gather, listened to laughter drift across the point, and somehow, without doing very much at all, I felt something I hadn’t realised I’d been missing.
Connection.

One by one, familiar faces appeared. Smiles. Waves. “Great to see you back.” Simple words, but they carried more weight than people probably realised.
It reminded me that this community has never been about how fast you swim or how often you turn up. It’s about the way people notice when you’ve been away and make you feel like you’ve never left.
Sometimes we think we have to be at our best before we come back. Fit enough. Healthy enough. Ready enough.
But maybe that’s the beauty of this place. You don’t have to earn your spot on the rocks, in the water, or around the coffee table afterwards. You just have to show up, however you’re feeling that day.
The salt water will still be there. The sunrise will still arrive. Your friends will still save you a seat on the ledge.
And sometimes, that’s exactly where the healing begins.
See you on the point.
