53 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
The southerly certainly came and did it’s thing over night; the sea has calmed right down, for us at least in our beautiful proctected corner, but blimey did it have to bring all that antarctic water with it !? It was brain freeze temperatures this morning. But, don’t worry… I’m sure the warm water will find its rightful place back with us by tomorrow.
5 people braved an early Bolderdash; sailing up to Queenscliff but hard yacker every sroke of the way back. Linda, were where you ?? I’m sure you made a pact with Michael at Nibbles last night…
3 swimmers enjoyed a bonus double early lap into Shelly and back too.
On the way back from Shelly on our regular swim we had the rare pleasure of a massive ray at the point !! 🙂
It was dark in colour and huge with a thick stumpy tail. I’m not sure if it was a Bull Ray or a Smooth Ray or if there’s even a difference, but whatever it’s name it was wonderful to see it with us, so graceful as it swam over the rocks, but boy did it make us jump as it came to say hello, hence the lack of photo, sorry.
We had a fantastic evening with a great turnout for our Manly Wine Sponsored Nibbles last night. Thanks Manly Wine and to everyone who was part of the evening, it was wonderful as usual !
Tim’s fact of the day: “Seahorses have a single mate for life. Every morning, they come together, dance, change their color, twirl around with linked tails and then separate for the rest of the day.”
See you for Bolderdash, 5.50am tomorrow morning, a good practice ready for the first 6km summer badge swim this Saturday !! Remember they all count towards the Pacific Challenge… Lesley Coulter has now passed the 200km mark, well done Lesley.
Water Temperature 18 degrees.

Tomorrow is looking good for the Bolderdash for all those interested.
Firstly there will be SUN!!! Yaaay!
The swell at Manly will drop from 0.6m to 0.3m and offshore it will be from the South and will drop from 3.2m to 2.5m.
Also the wind will be Southerly and will drop from 45kph to 30kph. So Queenscliff will be much better than it was this morning.
The offshore temperature buoy is at 18.6c, so maybe the water will warm up as well!!
Altogether not a bad outlook. It should be a good day to “give it a go”

BTW It looks like Saturday and Sunday will be even better again by a large margin! Maybe some good times coming. It is Summer after all.

Sorry guys but the verdict is in, check out link below!
I particularly love the use of the words: repulse, eyesore and creepy in reference to the budgies!! heeeheee hahaha

That reminds me of a limerick:
There was a young swimmer from Mudgee
Whose physique was decidedly pudgy
When he went to the beach
He made all the girls reach
For he was all smuggle no budgie

Obviously trying out your outfit for the Christmas Party Iain. Are you going to play your organ there too?

Good spotting Nick, I thought the bridge poses and upward dogs were particularly instructive.

That’s amazing.
To think all that time he was taping the show and we thought he was swimming the channel.
Devilishly clever!!
And of course Ian McGregor is an anagram for Grice Morgan. Proof beyond doubt!!

Missing the swim for a few days because of eye things, but very interested in the huge ray you saw today. In my books the white-spotted shovelnose ray Rhyncobatus djiddensis (fab. name!) seems the most likely from your description. It grows very large (up to 3m!), darkens with age, and has a stumpier tail than the others. If you google Rhyncobatus djiddensis you’ll find lots of pics of them and can see if that’s the one. It’s a tropical species but they are starting to come South now.

HI Jane, hope you’re eyes get better soon so we can enjoy you back in the water with us.
I’ve just had a look but it wasn’t that shape and didn’t have the dorsal fin that the Shovelnose rays have. It was very wide and rounded and very BIG 😉
