02/11/2011 – On the Up ‘n Up

December 2, 201110

73 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

22 people enjoyed an overcast Bolderdash with a couple of unpleasant surprise blue bottles at North Steyne and a bit of swell to keep it interesting off Queensie headland.

Conditions are improving nicely, the regular Shelly swim was beautifully calm with the water clearing 🙂

Good news is it will be better tomorrow again, ready for our first 6km summer badge swim.  We start with the regular swim at 7am, then for anyone who is keen to continue on we will wait off the point and then continue on up to Queenscliff for another re-group, then over to the rock pool at Freshie (for another re-group), then straight back to Manly for our well earned brekkie.  Everyone is welcome, so please feel free to join in and give it a go.  If you can’t make tomorrow don’t worry they will be available every Saturday morning over summer.

I’m sure there will be a few early risers keen for an early Bolderdash too if anyone’s keen.

If you do the whole lot that will be 9km all before 9am, well almost… now that’s not a bad way to start the weekend.

Tim’s fact of the day: “While mating, seahorses utter musical sounds.”

Water Temperature 18.9 degrees.

Air Temperature 18.5 degrees.
Sunrise 5.37am.
Sunset 7.51pm.
Low Tide: 8.21am.
High Tide: 2.32pm

Wow! That was hard work coming back from Queenscliff this morning!!
The good news is that the swell will halve as will the wind speed tomorrow. Both will still be coming from the south, so it should be great conditions for the 7am swim and the 6km swim.
Sunshine is promised??? As it was this morning?? The offshore sea temp is nearly 19c so it looks like this is heating up also.
It could even be a good day to sneak in an early Bolderdash if you’re feeling a little unbalanced and want to get in a lazy 9km before Brekkie??

For anyone doing the Bondi to Bronte ocean swim on Sunday, a few of us are going to swim up from Bronte to Bondi beforehand, leaving Bronte at 7.45am, meet in front of the kiosk.
…and after the race tattersalls will have a tent on the grass behind the beach, so come over and say hello.
anyone who needs a lift I will be driving over…but leaving early to do the B2B2B!

Michael, sounds like you are giving a pretty good sales pitch for the 6km swim tomorrow. If we plan to do it on day one then theres no time to talk ourselves out of it…summer badge done!!!

Agree with you Sue, let’s get it out of the way, then we can focus on the 10km 🙂 (If there’s a badge in it, I’m in) (oh except for the crazy stunts of ’round the North Head and between the heads)
Brendan, best of luck for your B to B and back to B swim on Sunday!I’m sure it will be a hoot.
Sorry I can’t make it, but maybe I’ll see some of you at this great art show fundraiser in Balgowlah for a local mum with a life threatening illness. Sunday 1-6pm, Red Olive Studios, 1/294 Sydney Rd, Balgowlah. ‘Carbo’ from Packed to the Rafters is the MD, there’ll be live music, fantastic art by local artist, Xmas pressie shopping and lots more.

Good luck to anyone participating in the 3 points challenge and/or the Bondi to Bronte swim or in Brendan’s case the B2B2B.
