42 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
A great swim with only a little bit of chop and no Jimbles – yeh !! 🙂
Great visibility and Gaetan Guilhon got to swim nearly all the way to Shelly Beach with a cuttlefish – beautiful, just love cuttlefish, which we only get to see in the winter months 🙂
James Goins found a big jelly fish which we see only occasionally and he got a great photo of it too. Jane what is it called ? Is it a tropical one that’s gone ‘swim about’ ??
It’s good to see Ricky Facer has ditched his wetsuit and is back in the pink… no pressure there Ricky 😉
Charlie Champhin is a great example of why its good to do ‘winter without wetsuit’, or if your gonna wear a wetsuit you definitely need one that fits… check out the photo of Charlie’s neck and that is after only his second swim – ouch :-(. Charlie is not deterred and neither is he motivated to swim ‘winter
without wetsuit’, he’s off to the pharmacy for that anti-chaffing potion, anhydrous lanolin, aka wool fat 🙂
Magnus Butlin has gone live over night with the 12 month history of B&B attendance, it looks pretty damn cool, thanks Magnus !!! Check it out, it is combined with the daily attendance graph and photos opposite.
Stephen Coulter wanted to swim 50km for the month of June so he managed to find a couple of crazy friends to do an extra lap
with him early again today, Iain McGregor, Isobel Kirk and James Goins, there is photographic evidence too…
Thanks for today’s great photos James !
One of our swimmers, Clive Roberts completed the Alcatraz swim last weekend and came 3rd in his age group, 15th male (in wetsuit) in a time of 30:33, see the photo here. Clive said it wasn’t a patch on the Manly – Shelley swim, but an experience none the less. Another one of our swimmers, Diana Robertson was planning to do the Alcatraz swim without wetsuit, how did you get on Diana ??
We had a great turnout for B&B’s Manly Wine sponsored nibbles last night, it was definitely our biggest turnout so far with quite a few first timers which was lovely, thanks for making it a great night !

My Apologies,
It would appear it takes 2 and 1/2 hours to get to Newcastle and so to be there by 9am I will have to leave at 6:30am.
Is anyone interested in a 5:45 swim???
Alternatively a 6:20pm swim should also work.
Anyone….

The jelly looks like a mosaic jelly aka jelly blubber, Catostylus mosaicus. I’ll check with the OzMus experts.
Wow – “Australia’s deadliest sea creatures” – just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water at Shelly!

Alcatraz swims are lots of fun. The best one each year is in Sept and put on by my old swim club the South End Rowing Club. The club is open to the public use for a nominal fee if you want to go for a swim when in SF. Water there is not yet a warm as it is now Manly.

I love the last line of the story “The purpose of this story isn’t to scare you, it’s to let you know what’s out there and what to avoid”…just in case you didn’t know to avoid a great white.
thanks Nick for posting this just before the Magnetic Island swim!

Stephen,
I suggest you lead the 6:20 again.
I will do a pre swim pre swim to check the water for you before you to a follow up check to check it for the 7am swimmers.
I expect Michael to join you.
