26/12/2010 – Inaugural B&B 10km swim

December 26, 20107

Over 60 Bold & Beautiful Swimmers for the regular swim, flat, warm and no jellies. The resident 3 placid Wobbigongs were ready at waking for us at Shelly 🙂

THEN… the 10 Teners continued on from the regular 7am swim to complete the B&B inaugural 10km swim. We swam up to North Curl Curl, back to Manly, then into Shelly and back to finish off. An absolutely amazing effort by everyone – you guys are truly amazing. The 10km badge qualifiers so far are:

Andrew Croll, Brendan Mahar, Chris Kiely, Gaetan Guilhon, Iain McGregor, Julie Isbill, Kelly Johnson, Michael Christie, Tony Box and James Ley on the board – thanks heaps James, the shared bananas and Powerade was beautiful, thanks for supplying Iain 🙂

Emilie and Jean accompanied us to Queenscliff and Richard all the way to South Curly.

They’ll be two more 10km swims so the rest of you can qualify; one in Jan and one in Feb, dates to be confirmed.

B&B turns two tomorrow, now with over 950 swimmers on the list – what an absolutely tremendous thing it has been for all of us 🙂

In case you checked yesterdays blog in the morning, there are a few extra photos from Christmas morning on yesterday’s blog which you may wish to see.

Water Temperature 21.8 degrees.
Sunrise 5.44am.
Sunset 8.08pm.
Low Tide: 6.27am.
High Tide: 12.45pm.

I’ll be the first to say what a great swim! the water was beautiful all the way except for the cliffline between Freshie and Curlie. That was a bit rough and choppy. Otherwise it was a dream; flat water and smooth, temperature 21.8c. To top it off there was a nice cloud cover so you didn’t get your backside burnt off!

This truly was an amazing swim,Who would have thought that you could swim 10 k’s in the open water. You just wouldn’t do it on your own.Special thanks to Julie and Michael for there enthusiasm and leadership who give you the confidence to overcome any inhibitions that you may have in the water. This is a must swim for all you enthusiasts to tick off.I think an afternoon nap is in order .

Hi thanks for a good swim this morning. I like the way we all stuck together and the paddler support. I wasn’t really prepared for a long swim today so I jumped out half-way. Got dumped by a big wave at Curly and walked back to barefoot to Manly in the rain with sand in my cossies. I shoulda swum back with you guys. I’ll get the next one.

Chris you said it so well, thanks so much to Julie and Michael for making this happen! I still remember my first swim 3 months ago when I barely made it to the bower restaurant fully exhausted after 400 meters and Michel thought he’d have to give me resuscitation 🙂
And today after the 10km, I just thought “Wow, you can definitely tick the ‘Major Achievement’ box for 2010”! I guess I’ll need something bigger for 2011… probably the 10km again… but without my flippers this time 🙂
Also many thanks to James for always coming along on the board, giving us directions and making sure everyone is going ok.
What a memorable day! I wonder who’s gonna turn up at 5:50 tomorrow morning 🙂

Great fun cruisin, gliding at least for most part. Felt like jelly (boxjellyfish) towards the end. Oh what a feelin! This is the best club for stretching, going beyond, enjoying the moment….And to top it all a kiss from our Captain. Great leadership, support, teamwork and friendship. Thanks for the huge wave Richard from Freshie Point. 😀
