Over 94 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
Big seas, a snapped board and a closed beach saw most of us complete a biathlon this morning 😉
With nice walk round to Half Way, a swim to Shelly and back, with Bruce taking some for a little extra distance extending out to the point and back, and then a nice walk back to Manly.
We also got to enjoy watching the experienced surf swimmers go through the break from the safety of the point.
The dusky’s were out and about, they were a little deep and the water clarity’s not great but there is a photo for you none the less.
Mary said the only thing missing from today’s swim was her washing 😉
Thanks for the splashingly good photo at half way beach Stephen and great job in pulling out the heavy duty plastic sheet from today’s swim too.
I don’t think we had any early swimmers this morning ?? Now that’s a first for a while.
Check out this great on tour photo from Lindsay Carpenter and Richard Glover, from their Christmas trip to England. They had a great swam on Christmas Day at Hatchmere in Cheshire, and Rydal Water in the Lake District on New Years Day with some folk from the Outdoor Swimming Society.
There are more photos for you to enjoy on the B&B on tour webpage.
Our next monthly Manly Wine sponsored drinks & nibbles is Tues 24th Jan with a new start time of 7pm.

Just to clarify, the beverages included in the sponsored tab are:

One of the duskys cruised right under my face in the shallow at shelly, following a school of fish into the murky bit close to shore. I almost stood on it. It was slightly disconcerting to have a shark so close to my nose!

That dusky looks a lot smaller than the ones I saw last week!! 😉 I looked in a shark book to see what I saw (because I saw 2 types and about 10 of them!) ..So what I think they were, were mainly dusky’s and 1 bronze whaler having a tussle!
Jules/Michael – re: the 6km swim on Saturday what route will it take? I know all the swims will be in the harbour so will the normal swim + 6km + 10km be linked? ie, they all start out together and each one continues on from the other? thanks
😉

The 7am swim goes from the end of Ashburner St out to the end of Addison Road (just before the toilet roll building) and back. The 6 & 10km swimmers then jump back in and continue on following the foreshore around to Quarantine Beach.
I guess it makes most sense if the 6km swimmers swim all the way to Quarantine with the 10km swimmers and enjoy the picnic, then of course they might as well just swim back and do the 10km… 😉 Yes !?
OK if not… MAYBE Maureen would be able to drive you back (if you give Maureen a small bag of clothes / towel at the start so you don’t wet her car) ?? If not (totally fair enough if not), or if there are a few people planning to end the pleasure early and jump out at Quarantine, it would be great if those swimmers could please help with recruiting a ‘chauffeur assistant’ ?? Soooo much logistics, soooo much fun 😉
Any ideas ????

I’m planning to bring some empty plastic tubs for people to put things in to be transported to Quarantine or just kept for safety in my car. My plan is to collect ‘things’ at 7am, leisurely make my way to Quarantine, set up, welcome swimmers, rub on sunscreen, lift spirits, clear up and return to East Esplanade to watch the finish. I’m happy to give 6km swimmers a lift back.
I’ll be bringing a large water container with lots of plastic cups (that seemed to work last time), fruit, lollies and maybe a little surprise.
I have a leave pass from 6am till 12.30pm so am very excited. Can’t wait for the fun to begin.
Any other suggestions are very welcome.

I’m confused (my usual condition). I know the Oz Day swim is in the Harbour. But is this Saturday’s swim in the Harbour too? I thought Lesley’s blog implied that. Over to you Jules!

Sorry for the confusion Jane. The Australia Day swim is in the usual spot, ocean side at 7am, Manly to Shelly and back. This Sat is in the Harbour due to the Manly carnival.

Thankyou Jules – I WAS confused! I misled Cathie – it’s this Sat. she’ll need my surf ski, not Oz Day.

Not necessarily Jane, we are trying to encourage as many people as possible to participate on craft on Australia Day 🙂

OK, I’ll leave it to Cathie to decide when she’d like to drive……….
