Over 106 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
Another grey and drizzly morning with fun and bouncy swimming conditions.
The water was surprisingly clear though so the fish were still on show in all their glory, including Jane’s first Dusky sighting of the summer !!
A fantastic swim for Neil this morning as he swam both ways with no flippers !! Fantastic Neil, there is just no stopping you these days, well done !! 🙂
Welcome back to Thor, who you can see to the left in the third photo with some of his friends and fellow Bronzies. What a surprise to have you back, especially so soon Thor. Congratulations on the new job 🙂
Check out Jenny Holmes below holding back the waves…. and Dave Brown’s feet as he is submerged by the wave… Seems he liked it 😉
Gerd heads back to Germany on Feb 15th so he’s trying to get in as many swims (and badges) as he can before he leaves, so he and Sam did an early bonus lap into Shelly at 6.20. I guess you will be doing the 10km in the harbour next Saturday too… hey Gerd !? 😉
A couple of nice photos below of the 9 swimmers who set off for their adventure around the heads and the water rats, aka as support team. Unfortunately as they got to Flagstaff Point, just past Quarantine Beach, it became apparent it was too rough and wet with limited visibility so they had to abandon and enjoyed a return swim back to the start, but all was not lost as they did make it back to Manly Wine in time to have brekkie with us all 🙂
James don’t you realise you’re not allowed to take things from the marine reserve… Can you go and put back those sea urchin spines you have stashed in your foot please !! 😉
Go Wilf !!! Check out Wilf on the podium in Phuket at the awards night celebrations as the winner of his age group in the Triathlon. Well done Wilf !! 🙂
I think we are missing quite a few ‘ticks’ this morning so if you swam but forgot to tick please let us know so we can add you to today’s attendance, thank you.

Poor Jenny – Manly Wine got our coffees mixed up this morning and she had to drink my decaf as she had started it. Sorry for the nasty shock, Jenny – but your caffeinated coffee was lovely, you’ll be comforted to know!

Wilf, what a great effort. From the picture it looks like you won a SILVER Elephant. Is that right??? Terrific effort whatever colour it is.
Two things need mentioning for the coming week:
1. The 1.5, 6 and 10km swims will be in the harbour, starting at the end of Ashburner Street. We will still meet at the surf pavilion at 7am and walk down. This will definitely be on Saturday and maybe on Sunday. The Manly surf carnival will be operating and will make it impossible to swim safely.
2.Its Julie’s birthday on Wednesday, so there will be a cake and even more than the usual good cheer at brekkie on Wednesday!

I’d like to give a big thanks to Tony Stuart for coming out in his boat in attrocious conditions, also to Stephen and Woody for their support. We were all disappointed not to be able to go around North Head but it was obviously the right decision. You can’t argue with Mother Nature.
After hearing his stories of multiple aborted long swims, I blame Alex! At least we had a good swim in the harbour.
looking forward to giving it another go some time soon.

Agreed! Thanks to Tony (and Stephen and Peter); as disappointing as it was the right decision was made for us!
Also a ban on Alex ever suggesting he may try a swim around/between/near the heads ever again!!!!

It looks as if Jules is having coffee at South West Rocks. Please leave a tip as I forgot. Congrats

Thank you very much Tony and sorry for selecting the wrong day/weather 🙂
Stephen and Woody, many thanks for helping out as well!
Just got some news from James, he had 6 urchins spikes removed from his toe and is on strong antibiotics but will be back tuesday or wednesday.
Now I understand why people are always worried about swimming in the harbour, being chased by a sea urchin is quite scary! 🙂
Also we probably did well to pull out as Michel told me the beach around QC was covered with blue bottles this morning, pretty sure they were waiting for us being North Head!

A sincere thanks to Tony Stuart for coming out today and even having a peek at the state of things at the heads. I think he, Stephen and Peter Wood suffered much more in the monsoonal downpours than we swimmers did. At least we could not get any wetter than we were there. Thanks again to the boat and support crews. It was an adventure worth pursuing. Maybe later in the season.
But hey, we do have victories to celebrate …. Congratulations to Wilf Deck!!

Great pics Jules. And well done to all the lads today – head swimmers, Neil and Wilf. You are inspiring one and all.

All the elephants are the same colour. Mine is nearer the flash. I came 3rd (and last).
Highlights – Standing up in the pedals passing someone walking his bike up the last of the steep hills and calling out “Look at me I’m Andy Schleck”.
About 100 Aussies standing up and cheering when the MC announced “3rd in the over 70 age group – the oldest person in the race – 76 year old Wilf Deck from Australia.
