Over 177 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
Pretty damn impressive for a work day !!
A sensational swim it was this morning too. The water was clear, flat, warm and absolutely teaming with marine life; groupers, friendly sharks, yellow tail, lots of different types of stripy fish, rays, a huge school of dolphins and a shag on a rock watching from the sidelines…
This morning the dolphins just sat back in awe of how much fun it was… tomorrow they’ll be keen to join in with us for sure 😉
30 swimmers enjoyed a stunning early Bolderdash too, with Alex, Cae and James extending it little further into Freshie.
James took some fantastic photos and says today
was pure aquatic indulgence… ‘Adrift on a river of pride.
‘
Check out one of James’ beautiful shots with everyone swimming into Shelly and the moon still in the sky 🙂
A few photos in the mix from Deb and Stephen too, including another great panoramic from Stephen to start, featuring Bernie and myself at the point. Thanks guys !!
Alex found a lost mask and snorkel at Freshie rock pool and carried it all the way back, including the trip into and out of Shelly. Team B&B continuing to do their bit to keep our waterways clean 🙂
These beautiful conditions should remain for at least the next few days as all the swell is coming from the South, so we are protected 🙂
Water Temperature 22.8
Air Temperature 21.5
Sunrise 5.56am
Sunset 8.10pm
High Tide: 10.24am
Low Tide: 4.59pm

We swam quite close to the heart today, and found that it is indeed quite pink.

Two paddlers saw two 8-10 inches fins this morning off North Steyne club and about 2km out apparently feeding off the back of the dolphins that were herding fish…
Sounds like we definitely need a boat on saturday if we decide to go around North Head 🙂

It looks like some people are keen to go Saturday and others only available Sunday.
Uhmmm…. either:
– whoever wants to go when, with whatever they organise
or
– defer to a time when there is less talk of fins ??

There does seem to be a lot of confusion and concern about the north head swim; my understanding was Sunday…
If someone wants to make the call to postpone I can fly with that; otherwise if there are a boat, willing swimmers and suitable conditions I’ll do Sunday!

Hey Gerd, the embroidery lady won’t be back at work till Jan 19. It usually takes a couple of days after that. Ok if I hold onto your jacket till then?
BTW- I swam with a school of fish this morning for 5 minutes, they made me feel very welcome. As usual great photos. Thanks guys.

Tony Stuart has kindly offered us his boat, but is only available on Sunday, so unless there are any other prospective boat captains out there, it seems Sunday will be the day.
Perhaps everyone interested in doing the NH swim should get together at Manly Wine on Saturday at about 9.30, after the 6k, and we can finalise arrangements for Sunday ?

Great photos today. I especially liked the sunrise photo with Alex in the foreground and (I think) Cae’s arm in the background
…at least I hope it’s Cae’s arm and not one of those 8-10 inches fins 🙂

they will almost certainly be 1-2 inch fins when you take the exaggeration factor out. If they are even fins at all!!

Sounds good to me Brendan!

Conditions for tomorrow look excellent!!
Although there is a 4m swell coming from the south, MSW predicts NO DETECTABLE SWELL at Winki Pop and hence Shelly!
Offshore water temp is 22c+ and it will be SUNNY.
The only drawback will be a moderate south westerly wind at 48kph and it could be a bit hairy if you go down to Queenscliff. [it will be great going down, but purgatory coming back.]

That looks so beautiful, and the water temp is unimaginable to we poor English swimmers…we’re down to between 6 and 9 degrees in the SW now. I’m envious of your fish, especially the friendly sharks! We had a blue shark washed up in Devon a couple of weeks ago, which caused great consternation as we only usually see basking sharks in the summer, and they don’t have teeth…

Hi Lynne
It’s perfect here, especially right now, come over and play… 🙂
I just googled Blue Sharks, that would have been great to see one. Shame it wasn’t alive, as they don’t appear to have humans on their diet 😉
