98 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
And what a beautiful swim it was too !!! Lovely calm waters, and a fantastic panoramic photo courtesy of Stephen above.
There was so much marine life around, the bonus being that we could actually see it again this morning 😉
Attracta saw a massive school of yellow tail scad that were being rounded up by half a dozen kingfish.
Quite a few swimmers saw some healthy sharks, and our massive smooth ray was back in the bay.
The highlight would have to be Attracta’s new species of star fish just off the point photographed below…
Plus Stephen watching Russell cut the corner maybe just it a little too tight on the way back…
4 swimmers enjoyed an extra early lap; Brendan, Gaetan and Iain up to Queensie and Dave into Shelly.
A little rubbish retrieval occurred today too thanks to Anna and Attracta, so it should be even nicer tomorrow 🙂
If these conditions remain a few swimmers are considering an ~8km swim around North Head this weekend… Is anyone keen ??
It is a beautiful swim in ideal conditions, but a very different swim to our usual shoreline adventures. Once you set off you have to finish regardless of the blue bottles, swell, chop etc… of which there can be plenty, plus there is no beach to climb out at en-route either.
Conditions dependent… is anyone is keen to swim, paddle or hop in a boat and join in the fun and support the swimmers should it go ahead ??
Of course the everyday 7am Shelly swim and the Summer Saturday 6km swim will be on regardless 🙂
Below are also a couple of extra happy photos from last Saturday, courtesy of Deb Hanson.
There are also a few new photos on the B&B on tour webpage too. Thanks heaps for submitting them they’re all sooo fun.

Re Australia Day swim: anyone interested in borrowing my little surf ski to accompany the swimmers is very welcome. Cathie knows how to drive it – she used it for the Harbour swim a few weeks ago.

I can’t swim for a week or two due to stitches from having skin thing removed – very happy to help on boat and do photography!

Just checked tidal info. Low tide is 6:30ish Sunday morning. Must leave at or before 7am to avoid incoming tide and also could catch last of outgoing tide.

@ Maureen Rath: Hi Maureen, before I move back to Germany in a few weeks I would love to have my name embroidered on my hoddie and I was told your are the one :-). Would you mind to do that for me and if yes, are you going for a swim tomorrow?
Cheers,
Gerd

I think we have to organise ourselves if we’re going to do the North Head swim. As we found out last year, it’s a unique experience swimming out through the Heads and around to Manly, but it’s completely different to swimming along a beach where you can come in any time you want. You are really in the ocean. Even on a relatively calm day, it can be quite bumpy out there, and our paddlers and board riders had problems going along at a swimmer’s pace. The long-range forecast is good, with south-easterly winds on a 1.2m swell.
I think we need enough seats on boats to get all swimmers out of the water in relatively quick time if we have to, which means confirming swimmers’ numbers and then seeing if we have enough boats willing to volunteer to accompany us for the 3 to 3 1/2 hours it’s likely to take. On that basis, I am in.

I’m fully up for the North Head swim on Sunday…
Where do I sign up?
Will happily do an early start; Brendan do I hear you offering yourself as organiser supreme???

Well said Brendan. And indeed our support people were both very competent and experienced on the equipment they paddled round on.
I have paddled around there ONCE on board and I had to be towed / rescued. It’s no mean feat on any occasion and worse going at swimmers pace.

Tony Stuart has very kindly said he is hopefully available to bring his boat if the NH swim goes ahead on Sunday, but unlikely if it’s on Saturday.
Thank you very muchly Tony 🙂

Am very keen but will have to try and switch work committments to make it. I will endeavour to do so and firm up my position ( no innuendo intended)
