57 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
Stunning swim this morning ! There was a whale just off shore up at North Steyne as we entered the water !!! Sadly, despite my beautiful whale call he didn’t come and play with us though 🙁 maybe tomorrow…
The water is just lovely and definitely clearing with a few temperature variations throughout and a large blue grouper just off Manly Beach.
The first four photos are courtesy of our artisic, resident photographer, James Goins, thank you James 🙂
A couple of great shots of Billy Boy, Vanessa
Wilton’s dog, keeping watch
Anyone keen to come to North Queensland to swim the 8km from Magnetic Island to Townsville on Sunday 31st July with Brendan Maher, Michael Christie and myself ?
You can participate as solo, duo or in teams of 3 or 4 ! And.. the best bit is, for out of town swimmers the organising committee find a paddler for you 🙂
Michael and I are flying up on Friday 29th and coming back on Monday 1st August. We are staying on Magnetic Island in Arcadia Bay.
Who’s keen ??? How about you use the comments section of this blog to let us know you’re interest, especially if you want to find other people to make up a team, or share accommodation with. It should be a great weekend 🙂
To check out details of and to register for the Magnetic Island swim please click here
Oh My Gosh, just when we thought things couldn’t get any better… check out version 2 of our new B&B attendance graph, courtesy of Magnus Butlin, by clicking on the image in the left hand column of the blog. It is nothing short
of absolutely sensational !!!!
It not only shows you the list of names of all the people you swam with today, but also links them to their photo from the wall of fame web page too !!! So if you were wondering the name of any of your fellow swimmers this morning, you need not wonder any more, you can check it out each day right here !!! Now that is serious “WOW factor” !!!
And… that’s not all, soon it may also show the swimmers’ current tracking in the B&B winter badge too !!!
If your photo is not on the wall of fame webpage you will be displayed as a very cute pink dolphin 🙂 If for some reason you don’t want to be displayed as a seriously cute pink dolphin hopefully you will be motivated to send in a close up photo of yourself for the wall of fame 🙂
Magnus you are a genius !!
Happy birthday to Christine Armour today 🙂

I’m interested in taking on Tiger Sharks, Bulls Sharks, Crocs and Stingers without a cage too!
Check out these other weird things we might see too. We need to tell Wired about the B&B – they might find a few more to add to their list!

Swim costumer rules for Magnetic Swim…
Does anyone know what this means in terms of Orca’s?
Swim Costumes:
Any swim suits which have ever been deemed legal as per FINA for Open Water Swimming (ie. Current or previous years), will be acceptable in this event. This includes Fast Skin materials and suits which cover the torso and legs.
The committee recognizes peoples’ changing attitudes to sun, safety and the spirit of open water swimming. In recognition of this and in the best interests of competitors, the 2011 race will allow the wearing of suits that people have worn in prior years. HENCE, in 2011 swimmers are permitted to wear swim skins or rash vests of any brand. Blueseventy ‘pointzero3’ and ‘nero’ suits are allowed.

Hi Kelly.
Base is about half way between Nelly Bay ferry terminal and the race start at Picnic Bay. It’s a quick bus ride down to the start on raceday. it’s quite isloated from the rest of Nelly Bay, so is self-contained with its own bar and restaurant. the bus from the ferry will drop you right there. it’s right on the beach and has a fringing coral reef nearby, although not a particularly flash one. Base is a full on backbacker place though, so I’m not sure you’ll get a particularly restful night’s sleep the night before the swim.
Bear in mind that the swim is on the Sunday, but we have to be on the mainland for the briefing at 2pm on the Saturday, so another option is to stay in Townsville on Friday night and book accom on the island on Sat and Sun nights. That way you avoid paying the return ferry ride on Saturday, which costs about $30.

Wow that attendance application is GREAT. Well done Magnus. It allows you to see not only how many swam today but how many over the last month [at the moment] AND you can see WHO SWAM TODAY with a photo of them. This was how the original “wall of fame” was supposed to operate, but this makes it so much easier.
I’ll start bringing the camera down again if anyone want to have a photo taken to put up.
