07/04/2011 – Desert Squid

April 7, 20118

Over 73 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

Divine swim this morning, it was so clear it was like flying over the desert.

The fish, oh my gosh where do I start, there were soooo many… garfish, kingfish, old wife’s, yellowtail, dusky whalers, banjorays, stingrays and Anna & Vanessa saw SQUID…. 🙂

To quote Attracta, on a scale of 1-10 that was a 12 !

Great early morning photo courtesy of James Goins 🙂

The conditions are just soooooo gorgeous at the moment tomorrow morning Dave from Eco Divers is going to film us from under water with the sun reflecting through the water.  Dave will have a bouy floating out on route, probably inline with half way beach, so once we leave the point we will head just to the sea side of the bouy and Dave will be filming from about 8m down.  It will look fabulous 🙂

Water Temperature 23.0 degrees.
Sunrise 6.11am.
Sunset 5.44pm.
High Tide: 10.27am.
Low Tide: 4.09pm.

Very glad to hear Dave Thomson’s going to film us tomorrow, the Producer of the Swedish tv show just asked me if we had any underwater footage that he could add to the third episode.
Re the squid, the first thing I noticed were three squirts of ink in the water, not realising what that was until I saw the squid itself.
I just spoke to my brother Johan who is a keen hunter and fisherman. He told me they use squid for bait when fishing for marlins, as that’s their favourite food. So look out for marlins in the bay now…
He also told me squid are more intelligent than regular fish, opportunists (a bit like crocs) that will eat whatever fits into their gobs and happens to swim past. Watch out, the more petite of our B&B swimmers!

I don’t think too many of us need worry about a squid eating us. I think a lot of us should be more concerned about the Japanese!!! [in case of mistaken identity!]

What a beautiful swim today. Clear as crystal, warm, buckets of marine life, flat as a lake and a beautiful sunny morning as well. It truly is as good as it gets.
A couple of us are swimming early at 6am, usually on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. This is in the spirit of the Bolderdash swims to Queenscliff and back. This may suit some of us who wish to get away early for work.
Roberto Suares has undertaken to post on the blog the night before each swim. So if you have interest; watch the blog on Sunday,Monday and Wednesday, and any other days that it may come up.
