06/07/2011 Breathtaking

July 6, 201119

Breathtaking both the sunrise and the first step into the water πŸ™‚

Lovely morning, with swell from the South Cabbage Tree Bay was relatively calm this morning, the Westerly wind had a lot of us thanking Hugh Bradner for inventing the wetsuit.

Swim started at 6:20 this morning for a few of us the water was really clear. 7am Swim was just in time for the sunrise.

There were a few jimbles around but thankfully we had Iain around the designated jimble bait to take a couple of stings for the team, thanks Iain.

70 Swimmers.

Water Temperature 16.7’C

Sunrise: 7:00
Sunset: 16:58
Low Tide: 5:52
High Tide: 12:00

Great Pic from James this morning

Mitch you are saying 70 swimmers but the attendance shows 69. Could you please make sure those numbers are in sync?
    :-)))
Water was indeed cold this morning (much warmer once we reached the point) but it was so clear!!! Can’t wait for some snorkeling this weekend!
It was freezing outside with the cold wind. Looks like this is not gonna change for a few days.
There were apparently heaps of whales jumping out and visible from Shelly’s car park I was told.

I was speaking to Iggy the other day and he mentioned you had a touch of “tocoldoutthere” and “sleepyin sickness”

Two very chronic illnesses from what I am led to believe, apparently they take a couple of months to get over… !
Michael and I just saw a whale really really close in at Boat Harbour, near Anna Bay, but it was way too wild and woolly to jump in off the rocks, shame πŸ™
Glad to hear we missed the cool water and glad youre taking the Jimbles for the team Iain.
So BB going to see Oceans at Manly cinema is Saturday at 5pm, dont forget your pink caps… πŸ™‚

Michel, I checked with Mandy Reid at the OzMus about the blue “maggots” at the end of your video, and she replied:
Hi Jane, The last frame shows a colony of zoanthids, or anemones. During the day, they have their tentacles retracted, so don’t look like typical anemones. I am not sure of the species. Cheers Mandy.
    I would never have known!

I might be able to solve the 70 / 69 mystery; John Kelly mentioned this morning that your name had a tick by it Julie?! πŸ˜‰
It was definitely super cold today! What I noticed swimming without a wetsuit is that there are no real warm patches anymore – in other words it’s cold all the way there and back… But going everyday I have gotten ‘used’ to it. And a tip to avoid jimbles – swim behind someone who splashes a lot when they swim, coz I swam through them and didn’t get hit once! πŸ˜‰ or maybe coz the blitzed Iain coming back from the north of the beach they were worn out?! thanks Iain! ;-D
Great news about movie on saturday night!
