Wednesday 3/5/17 “Never fails to impress” – this morning’s quote from Rusty!

May 3, 201721

We have been so spoilt lately that as soon as conditions aren’t absolutely perfect there is a moment……just a moment, of disappointment.

Not that the chilly morning deterred any of these regulars

Nat started out at 6.30 as she had to teach today.

Michele, Andrew and John

Michele, Martin and Sue

The Cammeray girls with Sophie under their tree

Two wonderful members of Management, “Swimmer of the day” Ian and Pauline

Annie and Cathy

Shannon and Rusty. Happy birthday Shannon, I hope you have a fabulous day!

Vicky, Liz, Ros, Michelle and Monique

Mel, Holly and David

Robyn, Debbie, Edwina, Lainey and Candace

David, Craig and Anne

Ian is showing a lot of interest in Jacqui’s  new “Jaws” costume.

Yes it was chilly this morning. The gentle south westerly wind tugged ever so slightly on the waters surface in the bay ensuring it was a calm but shoulder-chilling crossing. A significant cloud cover blanketed the morning skies with just a patch over the bay allowing blue skies to peak through but denying the suns warm rays

The water was a pleasant 20.6 degrees and continues to offer a clarity that is almost beyond belief. There have been many exclamations of delight over the past week, likening the diverse and abundant marine life in the bay to an aquarium.

Jacqui

When I arrived at Shelley there was already a palpable sense of delight but as soon as everyone realised the blog camera had arrived the mood shifted up a gear to exuberant festivity.

Lisa and David

Scott, his dad Craig and Ann

I just love your bright cossie Shelley. Everyone else was keeping shoulders in to stay warm.

Emma, Rainer and Lesley

Emma and Pat both below and above sea level

Many swimmers are getting to know the usual hangouts of the cuttlefish, wobbegongs and duskies, all of which seem to tolerate our curiosity with a nonchalant indifference. They have  put on an amazing show for all the keen photographers.

Jacqui (Not sure why this is rotated)

Anne

Apart from the conditions, some other highlights were welcoming Alanna back to the swim. It is so great to see you back with us Alanna.

Alanna getting hugs from Midge

Jenny, Inge, Alanna, Janet, Pauline and Lainey

We also have to say Adios to Michael who is going on an amazing adventure to Barcelona to paint for 6 months. I hope you have a wonderful time Michael.

Lainey, Anne, Michael and Edwina

Also, a massive congratulations to Ian and all our B and B’s who competed in the Curl Curl to Freshwater swim on the weekend. Many of our swimmers swam extremely competitively and came away with medals. Brilliant!

Sorry Ian I have no idea why this is rotated, but a massive congratulations for coming first in your age group. Amazing achievement!

Oscar brought his wife Nuria down for her first swim with their children Noah and Samuel to cheer mum on. This lovely Spanish family  recently became Australian citizens. Welcome to you all and I’m so glad you enjoyed your swim Nuria.

So although it was chilly and windy with no sunshine, it was an overwhelmingly enjoyable swim.

Emma volunteering for surf rescue!

I hope everyone stays warm and enjoys the rest of their day.

Special B & B Monthly Dinner – Swim with all your Heart
The next B&B monthly dinner will be on Tuesday 9th May at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. The dinner precedes our “Swim with all your Heart” event on Saturday 13th May and we have two special guest speakers. James Partington, one of our B&B swimmers will tell of his personal experience with heart disease. A very fit James, at the age of 37, was diagnosed with “a bicuspid aortic valve, moderate regurgitation and an aortic aneurism of over 50mm”. What the ?? Come along and find out.

James will be joined by Dr Geoffrey Tofler, who is Honorary Medical Director of Heart Research Australia, and has over 20 years’ experience as a clinical consultant cardiologist, including 13 years at Harvard Medical School Hospital in Boston. Professor Tofler will talk about “How to keep your heart healthy”.

The cost of the dinner is only $25 a head and includes shared entrees, a selection of mains to choose (incl a vegetarian option), corkage (for byo wine only) and a little thank you for the staff. Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Special Event – Swim with all your Heart
Join the Bold and Beautiful Swim Squad, Manly on Saturday 13th May in support of Heart Research Australia by wearing something red and making a donation before you head off into the water.
Heart Research Australia supports ground-breaking research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease – Australia’s biggest killer. Did you know that four times more women die from heart disease than breast cancer and that every 9 minutes someone has a heart attack in Australia? These are indeed very worrying statistics, which is why Heart Research Australia’s researchers have dedicated their lives to finding new ways to fight this disease.
Because the type of first-stage research they fund does not receive any government funding, they are 100% reliant on the support from the community to help them fund these inspiring researchers. Please show your support towards this life-saving organisation by making a cash donation either before your swim on the 13th May or online at www.heartresearch.com.au/donation using ‘Swim’ as your reference.

    Great blog Lisa!
Brilliant underwater posing at Shelly. Apart from Pat, no one looks like they are doing a poo. Which is a fantastic achievement in itself!
How on earth is Michael still here??? Feels like we have farewelled him for weeks now.

    Hi Lisa,
a great variety of terrific pictures of a spectacular swim today. Very clear water again.
I don’t mind the lying down pose in the photo after a long swim. How do you like the amazing medal that ignores gravity and was hanging horizontally?
    Alanna,
it was great to see you back after many months. The doubles turn-around rests off the point and at Shelly are always fun with you,

Thanks Rainer! Yes I think everyone did very well at Shelly. With a little more practice both photographer and subjects might perfect this type of photographic opportunity

You go out of your way to include as many people as possible in your blogs Lisa and help everyone get to know each other by including names. Such a great blog. Yes it was lovely to have Alanna back but a shame to farewell Michael aka Blogger Thunderbird. I’m still on a high after seeing Duskies, Wobbies and a Giant Cuttlefish!

A rather brooding blog, with sombre skies and dark tones, but it was lovely in. Hi Alanna! Bye Michael! Thanks Lisa!
