The gusty, windy conditions were very deceiving. As I lay tucked under my duvet, in the darkness of pre dawn, listening to the howling wind, I imagined the conditions at Manly would be less than ideal. Blogging duties ensured I made it down to the Beach before sunrise where all my doubts and unnecessary concerns of foul weather were allayed. It remained quite windy with a 14knot NWN wind hitting the bay dead on, but the 15 degree air temperature was positively warm. The water was still over 18 degrees and with a very low tide of just over .5 of a metre, was very enticing.
Wednesday welcomes us!
Steve, Chris, Sophie and Nick
Renee, Melissa and Andrew with two other keen 6.30’s
The Cammeray girls in silhouette above and being joined by some very jovial guys below
Ewen, Simon and Fadi
Gorgeous Fiona was getting out as the 6.30’s were going in! Which means a 6am start!
The 6.30’s make their way across the Bay.
There was a lot of exuberance on display today
Annie is always energised, joyful and so happy!
Fabulous Fi is very excited about her 6.30 swim before work
Always cheerful and upbeat, Nat has the day off today. So not only can she swim, she can spend the day with her darling husband.
I love the fact that there are always a couple of expectant mums down at the swim. It is such a wonderful form of exercise when pregnant.
Beaming Bergin and the beautiful blossoming Amelia
Gorgeous couple, Mibey from Spain and Ben from the UK are also expecting their first baby in a couple of months
The booty campers salute to the rising sun
Matt paused to appreciate the sunrise
Dorsett and JK. Glad you are feeling better JK
Jane, Alison, Robyn, Susan, Debbie and Deb’s mum Heather
Chris and Sue
Fellow Canadians Monica and Kyle with Jane
Fi joins Lisa and David for a quick photo
Todd, Trudy, Leisa and Jill
Ian and Greg
Simon and Shelley
The swim out from the beach was quick and after we had all gathered at our own interpretation of the Point, we seemed to get to Shelly at high speed. No doubt aided by those winds. The return journey was quite different. The choppy water surface and prevailing current made it hard work. At times I felt I was swimming backwards. Visibility was limited in the Bay but better over the rocks.
Kara and Kyle at The Point
A very cheery Alan at Shelly
Jeff, Mark and Darren
I met Deon two weeks ago over a cup of tea on the wall. He has sent me the following images of rays and P.J.’s to use for the blog. Great photos, Thanks Deon. So lovely to see you at the swim today.
Candace, Shelley John and Robyn having fun at Shelly
The Doublers at the Point didn’t seem to mind the choppy conditions
Monica, Robyn and Jane decided coffee was a more enticing option than a return to Shelly
Fi and Robyn enjoying the waves at Manly
Sparkles, Sue and Peter enjoying the sunshine
Ian, “Swimmer of the Day” Penny, Nikki and Shane
Lainey and Sooze
Ian likes to have control of the camera
Issy and Henrietta join me in the sun.
Highlights of my morning:
The sunrise;
The swim;
The sun’s warmth;
The smiles;
Each swimmer I had a chance to meet and chat with
…..oh and the coffee….of course!
I hope everyone continues to enjoy their day!

So much fun and frivolity, and yes it was a challenge beating into the wind on the return leg(s). Thanks for your jam-packed pictorial wrap-up Lisa.

Thanks, Lisa. The efforts all our bloggers put in is much appreciated.
It was only reading your blog that I realised it was you that I swam past when I fruitlessly chased after the 6:30 group. I should have waited a few moments at Shelly to say good morning.

Yes Edwina a gentle swim could be good for your back but check it’s not too choppy because it was quite hard work this morning

Pleasure Jeff. Going back over and choosing photos of all the smiling swimmers really does extend the feelings of happiness and positivity I get from the swim

Haha I try and make notes on dry land and if I meet people for the first time in the water I try and associate their name with someone I know or just repeat their names in my mind as I swim. Sometimes it doesn’t work though!
