To Swim or Not to Swim, that was the question of every B&Ber this morning.
The water temperature may have been warmer than yesterday’s 16.2 but the swell is the largest it has been in quite some time. Photos can not do said swell justice but it was an utter delight watching everyone looking out and deciding whether or not to swim in today’s conditions (Coastal Watch had the waves at a whopping 10-15ft!).
We kick off today with this smiling pair who both swam and made today’s swimming conditions look easy:
For some it was also all thumbs up for going in, the goal was to time your sets well at the start:
Also popular today was playing in the strong waves:
Some wisely conceded that if the Manly ferry isn’t operating, then going in is not worth the risk – on the plus side it means a better breakfast!
This trio from a running blog ran, dipped and had coffee:
This crew were very unsure whether to swim, dip, run but all managed to make it out of bed!
This pair wisely observed that conditions were ‘too angry’ but were going to make their way to Shelley to swim to the point and back:
Who needs a towel when you have your budgies and can choose to bodysurf in today’s conditions?
This trio completed the swim and admitted ocean was ‘wild’ today. Any guesses who the seal is and likes to tap on peoples toes as they swim?!
Some wisely walked to the point and determined coffees and chats were better than to chance it:
All smiles for some happy to walk to Shelley to start their swim:
Whilst this smiling duo sagely recommended diving deep into the waves:
Some impressively thought the waves weren’t big enough!
And last but not least some fabulous words from Bridget, John and Daphne who compared today’s ‘awesome’ conditions to a pavlova – creamy on top and crusty underneath!
Smiles all round no matter which (correct!) option taken today – happy lumpy, hump day all!
We have received some complaints about the lack of social distancing and number of people congregating outside MSLC.
Government regulations still require us to keep 1.5m away from each other unless you live in same house,
We appreciate that you want to chat to your friends and socialise but we need your help to make sure we comply with these regulations before we are forced to introduce more onerous restrictions.
With that in mind we ask that you prespect your fellow swimmers and members of the public in the following manner:
- Please start leaving bags and gear on the beach or step at below the ramp rather than outside MSLC
- Keep at least 1.5m apart before, during and after all swims.
- Arrive, complete your swim and leave.. If you are having coffee or socialising please do so away from the MSLC
- Consider swimming at different times to keep the number of people congregating at MSLC to a minimum.
Thanks for your cooperation.

That’s a great report of today. It was warmer and brown on top in parts. I don’t like to think why. Powerful sea. All respect to those who swam through. A cut above
