Our blog tart extraordinaire, funniest German ever and all round nice guy, finally gets his chance to really shine! Well done Rainer aka Lips on reaching 2000 kms! Around 200 swimmers turned up today, the water was calm and inviting and plenty of fish about. John Bond recorded 20.6 water temp.
The 6.30amers going in…
As Rainer comes down for the swim he gets photo bombed out for a change!
Beautiful light as Derek and Sarah head out…
Last night at Bluewater Sian Liddy from Manly Environment Centre gave a fantastic talk on Sharks and Rays so I was on the look out today but only saw Stingarees. I did see this cute Porcupinefish though. Edwina saw a large Eagle Ray. I didn’t hear of any Dusky or Wobbegong sightings but there is a big Wobbie around and Duskies were see yesterday. Please read the note below from Sian about recording shark and Ray sightings.
This Giant Cuttlefish has been spotted a lot lately, I didn’t see him this morning though. If you do see something interesting btw, it would be great to hear about it in blog comments!
I dove down to pick up this plastic bag on Monday, but it was actually the remains of a Jellyfish and two Pygmy Leatherjackets were having a feed!
By special request someone asked me to get a photo of the Mussels growing on the rope of the dive buoy in the middle of the bay.
and here we are at Shelly with Rainer, Shelly, Sarah, Gemma and Jo!

Have a great day folks!

Too much Rainer is barely enough. Thanks for showering him in well-deserved praise Lainey, and for a great blog.
On a side note, good to see Wilf’s ad has finally been fixed (that was an eyesore for the spelling nuts out here) and thanks to Ian for the safety information posted in Messages on the Log In page, a useful resource for swim-planning

Lainey, our Blogger Extraordinaire – a daunting task to capture a true landmark in history in such great style whilst battling 21st century technical glitches! Great job and thanks for always encouraging us to have such fun! xx

Such a fun morning! So glad you went for the low-key 2000! So nice that Jo could join you for the swim and all the celebrations too:)
I wonder who could possibly be the next 2000? Would have to be another star! x

Agree on all points and for the record, that ‘eyesore’ was not Wilf’s mistake. His ‘copy’ had the correct spelling he assured me…..

Thanks Lainey for the dive buoy photo. It’s been interesting to see the gradual change in that underwater micro-ecosystem as all the different critters grow on the buoy.

Hi Elaine, great blog, as always. I swam the 7am shift and came across a giant cuttle fish close to the half-way pool and a lone 1.2 or so meter dusky on my way back approx. 20m north of the point. I also saw a new type of jelly fish, slightly larger than a jimble, colourless, transparent, black stripes, short tentacles. See you again tomorrow.

Elaine I loved those photos, had no idea about the bouy. My eagle ray pic didn’t turn out well. Can’t wait for your celebration also.

I think the error was put in on purpose so the ad would be noticed. Sure worked. I was being asked what subjects they taught next at ACAP after they taught you to spell. Thanks Tim for your excellent work fixing it up and linking in my website. Much appreciated.

Lainey what a wonderful recount of Rainers big day. You captured his crazy, gregarious personality perfectly. Great happy photos and amazing underwater shots full of colour.
