Each morning I swim across the Bay, I become aware of my senses. They come alive!
It was during my swim this morning that I delved a little deeper and really examined my senses.
I heard the shrieks and laughter of the swimmers as they plunged into the cool ocean ripples. Then the chatting and frivolity gave way to the soothing sounds of bubbles as they journeyed gently passed my ears.
I saw the brightly contrasting colours of all the swimming costumes bobbing out of the beautiful clear water, the amazing sunrise illuminating the bountiful marine life. The colours and shapes of the underwater activity was mesmerising. Glancing up, the distant rocks and beach offered a constant guide across the bay.
I tasted the salty water through the rubber of my snorkel.

I felt The caress of the cooling sea and the even cooler air on my skin, (and then the occasional zap of a sea lice sting to bring me back to reality!). Waiting at Shelley has become a trial of endurance as the shivering begins and we dream about the sun on our back as we warm up on the wall.
On return to Manly I smelt the comforting aroma of the distant coffee brewing, and the toiletries that offer some pampering after the swim.
David and Mel enjoying their warming cappuccino’s.
After getting all poetic I started really exploring what a sense is. But is it sense, cents or scents? To be fare all these contribute to the experience of a B and B swim.
So I decided to examine how the this word is used in our morning ritual with its many different spellings and completely unrelated meanings. (How does anyone learning English as a second language cope?)
Here are Amanda, Brad and Milly using their “cents” to buy a warming cappucino.
The “scents” from the change room are a mix of perfume, shampoo and soap.
But then I delved further…..
We are asked to be “Sensible” when we swim out from the beach
Use “Common sense” by looking after newbie’s
Welcome to newbie Natasha
and newbies from Queensland, Carmen and Rob.
And to certainly have no “Nonsense” at Shelley Beach.
Happy Birthday splashes for Gemma!
We are “Sensitive” to the needs of our friends,
Michelle and Rusty
Greta and Claire
James, Jamie, Charlie and Ben
Greg and his team of 6.30’s. Claire and Nathan say Greg is a very sensitive, caring, nurturing guy. He sounds very new age!!
Feel “Sensational” after the swim
Ali after her 6am swim!
David, Attracta, Lesley and Lucy
The WOW’s Amanda, Alison, Emma, Melise, Jane and Georgina
And all enjoy a little “Senseless” tom-foolery when ever we can.
Leisa is very excited to be wearing her new wetsuit!
So, I hope I have covered all bases.
It is undeniable, after the swim, each newbie has an amazing “Sense of achievement”,
Newbies Mary and Maddie had a great swim. Welcome girls
and we all have a heightened “Sense of well being” and a great” Sense of humour”.
Make sure you get in touch with your Senses today.

I love your ‘way with words’ Lisa. I feel the same, how our swim wakens up our senses and makes us feel truely alive!
I’m in Gili Trewangen at the moment and my $9 all day snorkel tour was fun but didn’t compare with some of the swims we’ve had across CTB. Love your Crimson Banded Wrasse photo and some really great swimmer photos. You are a natural blogger!

You’ve done it again! Terrific blog, Lisa. I was wondering when you were next”on” and everything you said captured the spirit of the morning and the reasons for being there at sparrows made sense day after day. It’s like having a mini-holiday full of fun and fin before the real business of the daily grind begins.
