112 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
Another superb morning, with clear skies and seriously calm seas, in fact it was so flat you could make pancakes on the ocean.

If you were struggling the wake up this morning all your problems were solved as soon as you hit the water with it’s nice fresh welcoming charm…
With slightly less charm there was a convention of jimbles just past the point which saw a nice spread of swimmers take off somewhat noisily in all directions.

It wasn’t so cold that we couldn’t manage a quick belated happy birthday song to Richard for yesterday.

Check out three quarters of our B&B team (Richard, John, Simon and Bruce) getting in some early bonding ready for Hawaii where they will be swimming together to conquer the Maui Channel, ~16km from Lanai to Maui on 1st September !

James and Nicolee slept in this morning but that’s not totally a bad thing as they did make it down in time to take a range of beautiful photos for us !! Thank you 🙂

When you swim together is it true you grow to look like each other… check out Col and David… you reckon I can be forgiven for thinking they were identical twins ??

Welcome to all our new swimmers this morning. Sadly we didn’t manage to capture who you were though. If you bring a new person or notice a new person at swimming please ask them to record all their details in the pink folder and collect a pink cap so they feel part of the group and can be kept up to date with what’s going on, thank you.
Welcome back to Jon and Little Sarah Abbot 🙂
Also it’s great to have our friend from Townsville back down with us again for the weekend.

As we were enjoying our brekkie at Bluewater the whole cafe suddenly erupted as a whale breached about 200m off the beach. Michael, Robin and Sam were swimming back down from Freshie only a couple of hundred metres away but didn’t even know it was there. Wouldn’t it be cool if a whale came to join in the farewell swim for Bruce tomorrow !! 🙂
A reminder that as per Bruce Paterson’s wish we will be scattering his ashes as we form a circle off the point and sing the Gracie Fields song “wish me luck as you wave me goodbye” tomorrow morning at 7am. Please learn the words and the tune of the song by clicking here where you can also book in for brekkie too which will be at Whitewater in order to cater for us all.
Good luck to Roger in the 28.5mile Manhattan Island swim today. Enjoy the ride Nix 🙂
Also good luck to everyone who is taking part in the 24 hour MS Mega Swim today, starting at midday, to raise funds to support people who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis.
Stephen’s missing us but in order to help keep his withdrawal symptoms under control he bravely swam solo at Lorne in less than 14 degree water yesterday !

That’s if you have it smooth sailing if you get stuck in hells gate – you swim on the treadmill till the tide changes. Tides change every 6 hours.
And you have to swim as the waters is moving.

BTW tomorrow will be even better than today if that’s possible. It is predicted to be full sunshine, with NO detectable swell and little wind. Also there is WARM water offshore [21-22c] which is looking like coming in to shore a bit.
As well as this of course we have the scattering of Bruce’s ashes and “wish me luck” as he requested.
So tomorrow will be a great day to be in the water at Manly. No two ways about it.

Anyone got any good jimble sting remedies? The little buggers seem to be getting me every weekend . .

Will have to farewell Bruce vicariously as I’m laid out once again with a very bad back. V disappointing. Will sing with window open at around 7:10 tomorrow morning.

Sorry Eve, I think the only remedy is a full-body wetsuit. Still, when you are sewing that WWW badge on your jacket, you’ll look back on today with fond memories, and the stings will fade from memory. Definitely worth it for the prized WWW!

I haven’t seen that many jimbles before! Their big heads were coming out of the water! fingers crossed the turtles hear about it and gobble them up tonight 🙂

May I suggest paw paw ointment?
I am now covered in stings, the worst being the ones down my swimmers, but the paw paw takes the itch out. Today I had it on as a protective layer which helped, but i am still not fond of getting them on my face….Jules, I don’t know how you are so brave and BOLD.
In all my days I have never ever seen such large swarms of jimbles. We need a turtle breeding program!
I would just like to mention the fact that Anna ALWAYS manages to keep an eye on anyone in potential distress. She so very kindly escorted a swimmer into shore recently, and when I strike those swarms of jimbles, there she is looking out for me, escorting me into a jimble free track…so sweet. Thanks for being such a care bear Anna!

Bad news about your back Anne, hope you’re back in the water soon.
Will hit some of those Gracie Fields high notes on your behalf tomorrow.

Great to be back, thx Jules! A little later this morning and Jon got the “jimbles welcome”…..wetsuits for us tomorrow:-) Lesley’s neck looks like someone’s been strangling her…oh, the jimbles were doing their best.
On the flight over saw one shark documentary and one jelly-fish one. The jelly-fish was easily the scariest.
