10/04/2019 – The Misunderstood Shark

10/04/201914

Lots of Duskies again today filling swimmers with awe as they came out of the 21 degree ocean… Fiona T reported seeing around 15! After Dr Amy’s shark talk last night we should be feeling a lot more confident about sharing the water with these creatures. She was specifically talking about Bull Sharks but her main message was that they are ‘misunderstood’.

There was a full house of swimmers at Bluewater last night for  her talk. She told us about the shark tagging program she’s been involved in , tagging Bull Sharks in Sydney Harbour. They’ve tagged around 70 sharks and their research confirms they swim in and around the harbour in Summer months and they have even recaught a few of the same shark! As they are rarely seen and don’t go killing dogs and humans, we can rest assured they really aren’t interested in us!

Dusky pics above from last few days.

Another beautiful sunrise this morning. The 6.30am swimmers must be loving the lighter mornings . Here they are going in. Around 240 B&B swimmers altogether today and they were treated to calm, warm 21 degree water…Visibility was a little better too.

Jill and John coming back from an early swim.

Gorgeous reflections and light for 7am swimmers…

John D insisted on taking a photo of the blogger. Thanks John.

Kyle is leaving us after 2 years 3 months to go back to Canada. Hope you come back to visit Kyle! Drinks at The Bavarian happy hour at 4.30pm today for a last Goodbye to this lovely fella’.

and breaking news…Our amazing leaders got acknowledgment at last for the fantastic work they do keeping this group going. An award for community service and a handshake from Gladys. Thanks so much Ian and John.

In keeping with the shark theme of today’s blog some of the photos I’ve taken whilst swimming with the B&B of other sharks, the Wobbegong, Port Jackson and Grey Nurse.

Have a great day folks! Sorry for short blog, work calls…

Lainey

    Great blog, Lainey!
And congrats to the B&B C suite for the richly deserved recognition.
Moorea is amazing and not to be missed, but I’ll take a shy dusky over a cheeky reef shark any day.

Well deserved award for Ian and John. You look great but should have worn the caps. I’m glad there was one to hand.
Elaine the blog is splendid and I particularly love the one of swimmers entering and their reflections showing on the sand. How low was the tide

Wow Lainey, fantastic shots and so much information packed in and all delivered before 9am! I fear getting a Premier scoop has set a new high bar for blogging. Congratulations John and Ian and a sad farewell to Kyle – Ashburner Street won’t be the same without you!

Thanks for sharing. Swam while on vacation 3 weeks ago and those sharks look like they’ve grown already.
