This is the best time of year to swim at Manly and lots of people know it with more joining all the time. 40 newbies today! welcome.
I have been practising drills and today I think I will swim better as a consequence. Everyone has their own method of preparing
shoulder stretching is good before a long swim
Edwina and Alistair
Restoration of order a few weeks ago, people other than Brian, Jenn, Peter and Marg were at this bench.
the shower scene – so many swimmers at 630
Good hint from these swimmers – kicking drills with long fins activate the hips etc which is just what I need. I will be trying this today although these fins are longer than I am tall
keep cups are pretty eggcellent (Easter reference) – this swimmer and I were noting
Happy birthday Fiona for a few years ago.
Dee swam early
I encountered these two South Africans midway. I stopped to photo them because their swimming styles were so lovely. Enjoy!

I have not seen Ross around for a while. It is because he has been modelling for oceanswims.com which does good articles about ocean swimming. Like the one about deceptive Coogee wedding cake island swim of this week (the signature swim of Jeremy Wheeler; the South Curl Curl is also a signature swim of Jeremy Wheeler). Also about an apparently lost swimmer who was searched for by helicopters and many dedicated water safety people. The swimmer had gone home with the ankle strap and timing chip after seeing the southerly conditions whip up (made a better decision than me and Edwina!) rather than handing it in. What a waste of time of good people and resources searching for the lost swimmer. Ross would never do that
Distance Swimmer Andre Wiersig spoke about his quest to complete the Oceans Seven and also the health of the ocean as ambassador of the German Ocean Foundation this week. There was a lot of good stuff in it: he acclimatised to cold water by showering in the cold. In Germany and Switzerland. And he travels a lot for work but manages to train in and around that. One key message was that he uses boxing training to train for swimming. Novel, I thought. But then youtube showed me that the secret is out. Michael Phelps does it too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Upe4AvB-ESw
I will be thinking about this type of training now. This is preliminary to actually doing it

Beautiful and bold blog, thanks Elizabeth. Fabulous swimming today, well captured.
OMG I have just finished listening to both seasons of ‘In The Dark’, so good, especially season 2 (poor Curtis Flowers!).

Yes. I was reading about the apparently unfairly short sentence given to wife killer Ristevski in Victoria this week but a better situation than people being killed or held on death row that have been set up or possibly set up by elected sheriffs who want to get re elected. I am next trying Murder Book by Michael Connelly. I love his novels so I will give the podcast a whirl. But like sniffing coffee beans between sniffing different perfumes I will listen to some Conversations with Richard Fidler first
