30/10/2011 – Sand Flower

October 30, 20114

70 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

Gorgeous conditions this morning; flat, calm, clear, lots and lots of different kinds of fish and loads of us 🙂

We saw at least three different types of stingray this morning, as you can see from the photos below, a flathead, a port jackson, a catfish, a couple of dusky whalers, leather jackets, groupers, mauri wrasse, old wifes (and no not the ones featured in the photo below), red worwongs, and a huge school of mullet just to mention a few.

5 people did an early lap to Queenscliff and back and 12 people enjoyed a bonus double lap after our regular swim, only 3 of whom were without wetsuits… it is 20 degrees you know 😉

4 of this mornings photos are courtesy of Gaetan Guilhon who swam the early lap and photographed the regular swim, thanks Gaetan.  Love the sand scripted sun flower 🙂

Check out the happy fish observers; Jane Stevenson, Attracta Wolohan, Vicki Harbutt, Debbie Hanson and Mahdi Deaton sporting the rescued headband.

Later en-route Debbie and Attracta climbed upon a rock at the point in search of ???  Naughty fishing boats maybe… there was one that we shouted away as we walked down to swimming this morning.

Official Bolderdash starts tomorrow morning at 5.50am, swimming up to Queenscliff, back in time for the regular 7am swim to Shelly and back.  This will be on every Mon, Wed and Fri for the duration of summer.  Set your alarm clocks and come on down to rack up the kilometres, we just might be able to incorporate it into the Pacific Challenge too so that people can start to catch up to Neil… 🙂

Safe travels back to Hong Kong today for Sarah and Jon Abbott, look forward to your next visit in December 🙂

Good luck to Wilf if his Huskinson Triathlon and all our swimmers who are participating in the Noosa Tri today – bring us home some medals please 😉

Timberlie’s fact of the day: “As a loggerhead turtle grows older its head grows bigger.”

Water Temperature 20.0 degrees.
Air Temperature 19.5 degrees.
Sunrise 5.57am.
Sunset 7.21pm.
High Tide: 11.31am.
Low Tide: 6.15pm.

Jules, those ray pics are wonderful, better than they looked in real life. Good camera, good photographer! I think they might both be common stingarees, just colour variants. I love the one peeping out from under his doona.
