It’s 6.56am and Ian announces that Bluebottles are in the bay and a swim North might be the best option… Fiona and Paul have come in with bluebottle stings so most decide to head North, some go to the harbour and a few of us go around the rocks…
This was 6.25am in our gorgeous corner. It’s a perfect morning, warm air and water, sunshine and calmish waters, just a shame about those pesky Blueys… Around 280 turn up to swim today, 3 newbies and the water temp is 21.7
Supermum Nat, mother of 5 sons, Primary school teacher, blogger, cross-fitter, lovely person etc, gets an early dip in at 6.30am before teaching at Manly West. (We arrange to try and meet up in the staff room later!)
Sarah comes in from The Drinks Express happy that she didn’t get stung! She has been star jump training at The Sophie Coombes School of Joy Jumping 😉
We are all pleased to see that Midge didn’t get stung and share a cuddle pre-swim, Peter, Penny, Ken, Peta and Midge.
These swimmers are heading North, swimming to the Trident building and back to clock up the 1.6 kms.
They head North and I head off on my usual Snorkel Safari! All the swimmers I heard about were stung quite close to Shelly today so I don’t intend going that far!
See a Flathead straight away!
… and a mermaid with the Mados. This is luscious Louise from Liverpool. (You may have seen her on ‘Ladette to Lady’ about 7 years ago.)I’ve forgotten to change my camera to underwater setting but I still like this pic.

We see a beautiful Fiddler Ray aka ‘Banjo Ray’ near halfway.

If anyone wants some very reasonably priced ocean swimming lessons you can join Shelly Swim Club for $35 a wk for up to 4 sessions! It is run by Joe from Manly Beach Running Club’s wife Emma. Open water Sundays meet at Shelly Beach at 8.30am. If you have any friends wanting a bit of confidence building before trying our B&B swim it’s a great place to start!
So many inspiring people swim with us. Thursday blogger Deanna completed the Husky long course triathlon on Sunday and won the Athena category. She is amazing and dedicated her triathlon to her friend Cherie who died last year…
I met Susan Vincent yesterday, one of our swimmers who helps organise the “Ride of Silence’ which is a short ride around Manly commemorating all the people who have lost their lives in bike accidents. It happens all over the world and is on here on Sunday May 17th and is free. Maybe some of our cyclists may want to do it…
Stats:
Temp – 21.7 deg C
Newbies – 3
Swimmers – 280+

Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.
