18/11/2011 – Millpond Manly

November 18, 201134

101 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

27 people did the beautiful early Bolderdash to Queenscliff and back this morning including 5 people who headed off even earlier for a bolt to Freshie.

Oh my gosh the ocean is sooooo flat right now.  The conditions are amazing, you’d find more ripples in a swimming pool.

It seems you’d also find more golf balls out to sea than on a golf course today too as Mahdi Deaton came back with 15 and Sue Sutton and Cathie Coleman each with 3 !!  Was there some kind of hit off from Manly Beach last night ??

Gorgeous colours captured in James Goins stunning photos this morning (first 5, plus the last).
How happy was Gaetan Guilhon to be out there early… 🙂

We had 3 flatheads, a dusky whaler and a large stingray pulled up for a pit stop with two cleaner fish attending to him, all just off Shelly.

It seems that Derek sent Izzy flying high this morning… see photo below !!!

Meanwhile Iggy was doing it tough at Manly Wine with Timberlie… see last photo 🙂

If you were wondering what to do this weekend, come swimming, it’s absolutely superb !!

To make the most of these top conditions Iain McGregor is thinking of a one way swim to Dee Why this weekend, maybe Sunday if anyone’s keen ??

It seems that Sunday is gonna be a great day all round as rumour has it that Peter Wood is cooking a cake for Bruce Paterson to celebrate the end of this chemo treatment, which he will bring to brekkie on Sunday morning for us all to share, well first in best fed 🙂

Talking of Bruce, he features on Manly Surf this Sunday, 4.30pm on Channel 9 !!

Also Manly’s Inflatable Boat Race is also on this Sunday at 10.30am.  Last chance to register today.

Tim’s fact of the day: “Starfish have sticky feet that help them walk along underwater.”

Water Temperature 20.1 degrees.
Air Temperature 20.5 degrees.
Sunrise 5.42am.
Sunset 7.38pm.
Low Tide: 7.49am.
High Tide: 2.11pm.

I can see how Sue and Cathie were able to swim back each with three golf balls tucked into their swimsuits, but I’m trying to imagine Mahdi swimming with 15 of them… Mahdi, my mind boggles, I trust you had a ball of a time. You go girl.

Oh, and by the way, welcome to our two new Swedish swimmers, Sofia and Daniel. Great to see us vikings taking over the B&B slowly but surely. We’ll soon rename it “De modiga och de vackra”, if you don’t mind, Julie.

At the OzMus yesterday Mark confirmed that Gaetan was correct re the leatherjacket species he and Jules saw – unicorn LJ (Aluterus monoceros), not the scribbled LJ (A. scriptus) that I wondered about. Mark is very impressed at your ID prowess, Gaetan!

    Sunday is now Saturday!
Spoke to Mo Bro James who believes we would be mad not to make the most of the absolutely perfect conditions which will still be around tomorrow.
After a quick text to the usual suspects we are going to go to Dee Why tomorrow at 5:45 to work around parental sporting requirements!
