17/10/2015 – a future Sydney Marine Park!

October 17, 20154

My most magical moment to date from a B&B swim was swimming through hundreds and hundreds of yellowtail fish. I think it affected me so much because as a kid I was an avid fisherwoman and would sit for hours catching them from a jetty in Pittwater. It seemed so surreal swimming through this fish-ball… they didn’t dart away erratically but calmly rearranged themselves to allow me to swim through. Beautiful.

We are so lucky to be swimming in one of the few areas in NSW that is a fully protected no-take aquatic reserve – and the biodiversity here is flourishing with seven times the amount of large fish than other areas in Sydney according to scientists. Marine life is safe here, allowed the chance to breed which also populates other areas beyond this sanctuary too – that’s good for everyone.

The great news is the NSW government has proposed a Sydney Marine Park which will bring significant benefits to ensuring our coastal lifestyle is maintained in the very least.

We are having an event on Thursday 29th October at the Boathouse restaurant and it would be great to see some B&B’s there – it’s only $38 for drinks and canapés and we have the Getaway TV host, Prof David Booth top marine scientist and community leaders there. You can buy tickets on this link: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/celebrating-sydneys-marine-life-tickets-18879390766 and please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions on mccuaig.fiona@gmail.com only 20 tickets left and it will be a great night!

Great swim this morning everyone!

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! all fabulous people support a Sydney marine park! Mad photos show. Sorry you did not get Borat with the poster.
So happy to see Julie and Michael. Reminds me how lucky for me they started BB as an activity open to all. Otherwise i would not have tried this swim that I love so much.
