12/07/2020 A NSW state of mind

July 12, 202013

The Bold and Beautiful swim is still officially closed, as we are still limited to a smaller number of folk who would normally swim at 7am. It does give the opportunity to experience your swim at different times of the day.

For those up early, the day hung in the balance – rain, fog or sun?

But true to form, the sun won the day and we were treated to a glorious sunrise.

As the new week begins on Monday not Sunday, many swimmers are waiting expectantly for the start of the seventh week so that they can officially tick off the Winter Challenge.

We need to follow the rules as states raise alarm levels. As the NSW/Queensland borders opened the NSW/Victorian border shut. We may need to think about using what is available on hand for Covid protection. Some tips further down.

Above: When the sun delivers like this and you combine it with a swim it’s got to be a beautiful Sunday.

Above: The temperature was 16.5 degrees if the chalk number on the wall is the latest.

Above: As we contemplate protective accessories Greg offers this scarf protection idea to try to stay Corona safe.

Above: If that is not sufficient, you might consider this blue swim bucket, Ned Kelly variety, which allows Jimmy to enter the 1.5 metre zone.

Above: Rob with his winter Covid protection will make new tracks with this style.

Above: If things get really risky, you can take Paul’s tip and take cover behind that important information sign.

Above: Happy Birthday Michael. This Birthday beverage holder can serve as a handy mask with the addition of a rubber band and few clips.

Above: Sharon has almost qualified for her Covid 2020 Winter Challenge Badge but is off to Brisbane tomorrow so needs to fit in that seventh week swim in the furture.

Above: Louise and Mandy. Louise has been swimming with B&B for a few years while Mandy has found her swimming sanctity during the isolation months.

Above: Linda would prefer it if the week started on Sunday rather than Monday but is looking forward to the new week and clocking up a Winter Challenge Badge.

Above: Paul makes the trip down to Manly from Berowra for B&B – fantastic commitment so no excuses for those of us who live closer to the beach.

Above: Sarah has been wearing a moonboot and strapping after seriously injuring her ankle. She hopes to soon be back to swimming as she believes in the therapeutic value of the salt water.

Above: The stride to the start.

Above: Alan has made great progress on his stroke technique over Covid times – he has progressed from breastroke to an efficient Australian crawl.

Above: Merlin demonstrates how to use your ascot in  times of  pandemic.

Above: And finally… that  Mexican wrestling mask you won for eating a massive burrito could now be the ideal Covid protector.

Temperature written on the wall: 16.5

Number of swimmers: 132 by 1.30pm which will increase as we swim at different times of the day.

Take care, keep laughing, stay safe – remember it ain’t over till it’s over.

Very funny blog with great pics, Adrian.
I actually had a little swim today, so steady progress. Hope your son (also with ankle injury/fracture) is getting his legs up the wall and can have a sea water paddle soon!

Great progress, Sarah. Thanks for the feedback. My son tried the legs up the wall last night and thinks it helped his ankle.
