BOLD & BEAUTIFUL IS NOT CURRENTLY RUNNING DUE TO THE IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL DISTANCING AND STAYING INSIDE AS MUCH AS IS POSSIBLE DUE TO CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)
It’s Fri-yay!
For those up early the day was golden before it turned wet and grey.
Walking along the beachfront this morning, I caught snippets of conversation about weekend plans.
“Hopping on a Harley,” “pedalling north” or “heading further afield”, maybe “daring to think about overseas”.
So I thought would ask B&Bers if they have any travel plans as Covid restrictions ease.
Above: On the way to South Steyne. The scaffolding is down so you can see the sunrise reflected. The day may be grey and wet now but the reward for an early alarm was an amazing sunrise.
Above: Brand new day and good to remember that it ain’t over till it’s over so we’re going look after each other, aren’t we?
Above: Jasmine and Beth are off to Blue Mountains this afternoon for a run after their morning B&B swim.
Above: Our highly accomplished underwater photographer Lainey on land. After Covid cut short a group trip to Cuba earlier this year, Lainey is setting sights on more local travel. Snorkeling on the west coast when state travel kicks in, in the mean time she is embarking on plenty of local walks like Manly to Bronte.
Above: Leisa, about to hit the waves, looks forward to a Hamilton island escape when our Queensland cousins let us back in.
Above: Sarah, Tony, Sheena, Derek and Peter doing the sprightly post-swim walk. Sarah is enjoying swimming every day with B&B before she heads back to Hong Kong. Then comes back to live in Sydney and daily B&B swims for good.
Above: Tony swims with a shark repellent which he has not yet put to the test to see at what distance an approaching shark will back off. He hopes to hop the gutter and visit his Mum in New Zealand when flights resume.
Above: James and Matt ready to take on the day after their morning swim. James caught a ripper of a wave back to shore. Matt spotted the grey nurse on his way to Shelley. We are told GNs are the Labradors of the ocean (so hopefully) he would not have needed Tony’s anti-shark gadget.
Above: Bill, KB Claire and Tylney before heading down the ramp. KB’s beanie is the ideal headgear for today’s changing weather conditions. Tylney says he is cautious and will wait a while before travelling far afield.
Above: Jen, Gary and Graeme. Jen and Gary moved here from East London a few decades ago. No, not that London – East London, South Africa. Jen swam for South Africa and still gets a kick out of her daily B&B dip.
Above: Shelly before her swim and Susie after her swim. When it comes to travel and freedom, Shelly spoke about race horses bolting out the starting gate but then asked for more time to come up with a more profound metaphor. Sea horses?
Above: Jimmy before he headed into the rain and the waves to test his healing shoulder. The result: jubilation on his return when he pushed it a bit harder and found that his shoulder held up well. Almost good as new.
Above: Tony and Col are hoping for open borders so that they can swim in the Noosa Triathlon in a few months’ time.
Above: Kierin and Jason finished their swim and strode out of the sea into the driving rain and then the shelter of the overhang. Kierin says it’s hard to fight off autograph hunters after his first appearance in the blog.
Above: Talking of labradors of the sea, this is our Labrador of the land, Merlin. Had to dash back from after my B&B swim today and take him to the vet. After a blood test, injection and what us Africans call muti (medicine) he is on the mend.
You’d be amazed how amazing creatures live in one drop of seawater. Watched ABC’s Australian Ocean Odyssey which aired this week. It’s fascinating stuff and great viewing for B&Bers.
186 people swam today in varying conditions.
Take care, stay safe and enjoy frolicking with the phytoplankton.

Swim Anywhere, Any time to qualify for your
2020 Once Off – Unique – Covid Winter Challenge
Read more below for full details
Due to Covid-19 and the current government guidelines limiting the number of people allowed to be in a group, Bold & Beautiful is still currently suspended.
But we recognise many of our swimmers are still swimming at various times and locations, and it is more important than ever to remain fit, healthy and connected.
As such, B&B is offering a unique, one off, Covid 2020 Winter Challenge Badge, kindly designed by our amazingly creative swimmer, Linda from Manly Mac Art.
To qualify for your Covid Winter Challenge Badge you need to swim 20 times across 7 different weeks of winter, between 1st June – 31st August.
If you are swimming at Manly, any time of the day, please continue to log your swim as Manly – Shelly Swim, this swim will not only count towards your Covid Winter Challenge Badge, it will also continue to count towards the Pacific Challenge.
If you are swimming in any other location, anywhere in the world, please tick your swim as ‘Covid Swim’, this will give you a special 19m on the Pacific Challenge and will count towards your Covid Winter Challenge.
Log your 20 (or more) swims without a wetsuit and you will be eligible for the special 2020 ICC (Ice Cold Corona) badge.
YOU MUST LOG YOUR SWIMS IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE YOUR COVID BADGE(S)
If you don’t have a login, send an email to Ian at ugoboyo@gmail.com

So fab Adrian! Love that photo of the sunrise reflected in the pub windows. Last week ‘time’, this week ‘travel’…I see a Sith Lord on the horizon for next week, or at least a telephone booth. Can we start a gofundme to get Lainey some new jeans? Hope Merlin makes a full recovery.
