It was a truly beautiful morning to commemorate Remembrance Day as we did the Bold & Beautiful swim this morning.
After more than four years of continuous warfare, the guns of the Western Front fell silent at 11 am on 11 November 1918 as a consequence of an armistice to secure a peace settlement. Ever since the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month has become sacred.
Apparently, two minutes’ silence was first proposed by Australian journalist Edward Honey and was first performed during a ceremony commemorating the first anniversary of the armistice in 1919 at the new Cenotaph in London.
The Australian and British governments renamed Armistice Day after the end of the Second World War when it became Remembrance Day.
At 11 am on 11 November we observe one minute’s silence to remember those who have been injured or perished for Australia’s cause in all wars and armed conflicts.
It’s really important that we commemorate the incredible sacrifice made by so many brave men and women on our behalf so that we can enjoy the freedoms we do today.

Gentlemen of the B&B
The ladies of the B&B
Adam Moore, Real Estate Agent at Stone, Manly. I saw Adam at an open for inspection on my way home this morning, he looked very smart in a schmick suit.
Ghost (no.1 today), Peter Anthony and Rob. I’m pretty sure that Peter Anthony and Jeff Parsons both attended the same School of Positive Psychology.
Jillian and Michael. I hope I get this right, but I’m pretty sure that Jillian’s husband, Matt Christie, is Michael’s nephew, small world!
Michael Stacey and Jeff Parsons, don’t worry Michael I haven’t included that other photo you were concerned about 🙂

I’m thoroughly enjoying reading Julia’s ‘Victoria, The Queen,’ an intimate biography of the woman who changed the world.
As described by The New York Times Book Review, it is ‘exquisitely wrought and meticulously researched …thrums with authority‘.
I agree with the review provided by the Sydney Morning Herald, ‘Baird nails Victoria, with sympathy but not uncritically. There can be no higher praise.’
I purchased my copy from Humphries on the Corso and I highly recommend you add it to your summer reading list.
Have you ever watched the 7am B&B swimmers crossing Cabbage Bay Reserve? I’m pretty sure David Attenborough would be impressed by this incredible migration of swimmers, worthy of inclusion in Blue Planet III.
Someone asked me if I took this photo because they think it looks so good it looks professional, I’m flattered.
Brother and sister combo, Gus and Sophie
Let’s go!!
Happy birthday for last week Peter Anthony, hope you enjoyed your Donna Hay banana bread and brownies.

Monthly Dinner – 14th November 2017 – Guest Speaker
The final B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 14th November at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. The guest speaker on the night will be local Manly identity and B&B original, Isobel Kirk. Isobel is a renowned actress, a sought-after voice coach and entertaining raconteuse. With her perfect diction and precise elocution, she is eminently qualified to deliver her address entitled “Everyfink wot I know (and nuffink wot I don’t)”
The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential: To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book HERE.
What I have been reading
this week I read again Michael Connelly’s book, Two Kinds of Truth. Because I forgot I had already read it. I liked it again. Next book will be David Sedaris, My Talk Pretty One Day, following a recommendation that piqued my interest from Roz. Thanks

Lovely blog Megan. It was such a splendid morning for our daily splash.
Your thoughts on Victoria by Julia are echoed by the selection mob at the Walkleys as she has been nominated for an award!
And another famous B&B regular also appears in today’s SMH. Check out Roger’s career advice for – ideally – ‘…weird or left-thinking character(s) ..’

Beautiful photos. I think the sight of swimmers crossing the water to Shelly are just beautiful. Today we had newbie Jacques who swam in the ocean for the first time today. Ever. And he did a double!
