11/07/2011 – Badge Day !

July 11, 201118

54 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

4 swimmers and one paddler completed a bonus early swim this morning.

Another magical winter swim today, with beautiful skies, water and company 🙂

Wilf Deck was watching us from the point as an Albatross flew just above us with the occasional dive for a fish, shame he didn’t have his camera.

More fabulous photos from James Goins this
morning. To quote James, check out the lovely picture of Her Royal Jadeness with the halo effect created by the sun 🙂

I’m pretty sure the thrid photo down is a silhoutte of Sheri Deacon and baby bump too 🙂

Today marks the first possible day that people can qualify for their 2011 B&B winter badge, as it’s the first day of week 7 of winter swimming. Congratulations to everyone who qualified today 🙂

All being well the attendance tracking system should do something fancy to indicate who has qualified each day as we swim through the rest of winter, check it out… 🙂

There are currently 305 people who are on track to qualify for their winter badge so far, and the best bit is, even if you haven’t swum once yet this winter it’s not too late to qualify, as long as you do at least one swim before the end of this
week which is Sunday… Come on, get out of bed and take the plunge, winter swimming is beautiful !!

Alison Christie and I have committed to a 6.20am swim tomorrow morning, who’s keen to join us ??

Water Temperature 18.8 degrees.
Air Temperature 10.5 degrees.
Sunrise 7.00am.
Sunset 5.02pm.
Low Tide: 10.18am.
High Tide: 5.02pm.

Photo of Iain’s chaffing from his 6 hour (tepid water) swim at Balmoral on Saturday… 😉

    Yeh Magnus, you’re a genius, it works !!! 🙂
At the top of the spreadsheet it is currently telling us that 19 swimmers have currently qualified for their badge and another 286 are on target 🙂
The as you scroll down it highlights the people who have qualified in a shade of green, changes the little symbol to a tick and then gives there total to date.
    Love it !!!
Check it out each day by clicking on the 2011 winter badge icon to the left of the blog.

Wow! Thursday will be 7.5 weeks of winter gone with 7.5 to go! So this week is half way through winter. Amazing how quickly it goes.
It was a beautiful swim this morning and looks to be as good tomorrow. I’m up for a 6.20am early swim, as are Julie and Ali and I think Kelly, Gaetan and Stephen. Anyone else keen???

Following on from Watermelon Theory, is there now a Custard Apple with Winter having 15 weeks (assuming 7.5 + 7.5 = 15). June has 30 days, July and August 31, so 92 days of Winter! 92 divided by 7 = 13 weeks and 1 day. How is Thursday half way? I think half way is Saturday, day 46 of Winter????

Sorry Stephen!! Maths is not my strong point. [nor is anything else actually] Custard apple theory is quite new to me so I stand in deference to your superior calculus. Saturday then.

it was very dark at 6.20 but the orange glow coming from the horizon was a fantastic sight. Take your cameras people. Its worth it.

Surprisingly we found it darker than last week at the same time (aren’t days supposed to get longer?) but the orange glow in the darkness was indeed fascinating!
