11/03/2017 – A dog’s breakfast out there…

11/03/201713

Hi all. Justus and Suzie P here with today’s dad-daughter blog.

Although calmer than yesterday, conditions were still rather hairy out there this morning, with many people opting for the half-way option.

Despite the bumpy conditions, we pushed ourselves to swim that little bit faster knowing what was waiting for us back on dry land… CAKE! Our next blog will be dedicated solely to those chocolate brownies, we’ve already written a song about them (the chorus is basically “Nom nom nommy nom noms”, to a catchy tune) We hope you smash it on the Coastrek Cathy!

With the recent passing of Lee’s doggie Rosy, the reaction of many B&B members was one of shock and sadness—a reflection of the role these unsung heroes play in the greater B&B family.

So today, we dedicate this blog to the furrier members of our B&B community. In true Suzie-style, much of the material has been “borrowed” from other bloggers. Thanks guys, we owe you! (come see us for your free belly rub and “goooood boooy!”)

You might not know this, but the saying “going to the dogs” actually originated in ancient China, where dogs were not allowed in the cities. Criminals and social outcasts were often expelled from the towns and sent to live among the rubbish—and the mutts. It took us weeks of hunting through archived records but we managed to dig up one pic from this time:

Shocking isn’t it! Clearly from the look on this man’s face he has given up all hope of returning to civilization and has surrendered to a life of slavery, dedicated to serving the all powerful Panda-dog.

But back to the present day… Here are two of our favourite B&B characters. Coop has just been told the one about the duck and the sawdust (it cracks him up every time).

This security dog is taking his job very seriously and won’t budge for anything (except bacon).

And another pup with a very important role  (that is, looking good in beach patrol wear).

Here is Gino, Ian Foster’s “meet-and-greet” assistant, looking unimpressed at some newbie’s badly-timed joke about sharks.

No doggie blog would be complete without Polly, the B&B’s chief therapy dog. Polly probably knows more about the swimmers than any of us. Here she is sharing some of the goss with her owner, Ingrid.

And here’s Jane with Oempah (Larry’s pup) a year or so ago.

Oempah has really blossomed into a beautiful young lady (here she is on the right).

This is blogging guru Jenny with two dogs that can give many of us a run for our money in the intelligence department (and look posh while doing it).

These are fellow blogger Ian McKnight’s two beagles, Monty and Toby. Spot the one who knows what happened to Ian’s goggles and is feeling guilty…

Here’s Lainey and Ted with Freddie, who has just devoured a third of the pink cupcakes from the charity bake sale.

Sarah and Turbo disprove the dog-and-owner resemblance hypothesis. I mean, Sarah, you’re hot, but c’mon… Turbo is smmmmokin’.

This is our grandson/nephew Dylan, watching over a friend’s dog Toby. Great job Dylan,  ask your mom to buy you a puppy! (sorry Kerrie)

A wise man recently said, “Catch a wave. Call a friend. Hug a puppy.” (Oh who are we kidding… it was just Rainer)

Looks like this little fella might need it though.

Stats:

Swimmers: We guessed around 200

Newbies: Not sure any were crazy enough to start today

Temperature: Around 23 point something degrees maybe? (ok, so clearly stats aren’t our blogging strong point)

Stingers: None that we could see (although to be fair, we couldn’t even see our hands in that murky water)

Happy Saturday to all our two and four-legged friends.

Justus and Suzie P xx

Great blog Suzy and Justus! I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the beautiful girls from the bench (the table of wisdom…) who baked for the cake stall and to everyone who supported us today buying cakes and donating money so generously. We raised $546 for the Fred Hollows Foundation for our 60km walk on Friday.

Hilarious blog Suzie and Justus, loved it! Unfortunately you found a photo of our dog Sox before Freddie. He died after a tic bite so we have been crying all afternoon … No seriously great blog but I am sad to hear Rosie died. Great swim today through the surf if you timed it between sets. Look forward to your next blog S and J. Maybe you could do a focus on the lovely South Africans we swim with?
