10/10/2011 – Dolphin Bower Swim

October 10, 201124

54 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
Everyone who swam this morning has their photo on the wall of fame, so we have no pink dolphins on today’s wall of attendance !!  Check it out by clicking on the link to the left of the blog.

Instead there were real dolphins jumping behind the early fish swimmers as they swam back to Manly so we swam out to the Bower in the hope of playing with them, but alas they didn’t seem to want to play today 🙁 so we continued on to Shelly and back.

Lots of Port Jacksons (one photographed below), a Shovel Nosed Shark, a Wobbigong (fantastic photo below, caught on camera by James Goins), Leather Jackets, Groupers, Stingarees and the like – beautiful !!

10 people did an early lap, 4 did a double and Chris Kiely and Michael Christie did all three, it looks like it was worth it… check out Michael all wrapped up at brekkie ;-).

Any 6.20am swimmers and / or double lappers tomorrow morning ??

Tim’s fact of the day: “Dolphins jump out of the water to conserve energy. It’s easier to move through the air than through the water.”

Another update from Tim… click here… This time the shark really is after your balls:

Vicki Harbutt and Mahdi Deaton are a long way from the Dardanelles in their pink jackets, Hyde Park London 🙂

Julia Baird is looking for a babysitter for a couple of mornings a week so she can swim more :-).  The babysitter would need to go to Julia’s apartment just up the hill from 6:45 to 7:45 (or, ok, sometimes 8:30). Any morning except Wedwould be great. Does anyone know any eager early birds who love kids who would be keen for a little babysitting ?

Water Temperature 18.1 degrees.
Air Temperature 12 degrees.
Sunrise 6.21am.
Sunset 7.04pm.
High Tide: 8.00am.
Low Tide: 2.06pm.

Gaetan, I don’t know this person 100%. We’ve been married around 20 years and he’s still a mystery to me 😉 Or should I say, he’s still full of surprises, and there’s never a dull moment, as you can appreciate.
    Circus next!
    🙂
ps. What’s not to love about this unicycle man? Love you Richard.

Cae, it’s a 36″, no gears. The one with gears is in the repair workshop due to wear and tear 🙂

Gears on a unicycle?? Well, you learn something new every day!
I’ll have to remember that for trivia night.
Will be down for the early tomorrow. I’ll bring a hot water jug for Michael.

Lots of humpbacks breaching off Curl Curl earlier.
That was a beautiful swim today, but I don’t know how I missed those sweet Port Jacksons.

I liked swimming to the bower then riding into shelly on the small waves! Made the swim easy peasy! Welcome to Laurel, who by amazing coincidence was my first yoga teacher ever back in 1995, started bikram yoga here in manly and I think Australia? 🙂

There were 5-6 whales playing a couple of hundred meters off the Bower about an hour ago. Mother and calf were doing the tail slapping ‘thing’ for about half an hour!!!!Quite possible they could be around tomorrow, who knows.
I’ll be down for a 6.20 swim in the morning. I think its a bit too dark for the earlier Queenscliffe one just yet. Maybe another week I would say.
Conditions should be excellent for the remainder of the week. Surf will be miniscule, offshore temperature is 19c and it will be SUNNY on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with later sun on Wednesday. The water is CLEAR AS, just see those shots of the Wobbegong today. All things considered its a great time to take the challenge to do an early one each day this week.

I have just been watching those whales playing out at sea just off Manly Beach while eating my lunch, what an awesome time they were having. I have never seen so much activity from a pod of whales, they were tail slapping for ages.
Obviously they were waving at me and sending a ‘i’ll see you tomorrow’ message!!

Izzi and I were having a hot and sweaty session while the whale show was happening. I think the whales were attracted by our Ooommmmmms! Rather than tail slapping I think they were trying upward and downward dogging!
