68 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
3 people did an early lap this morning, 16 did a double and Mark Allen did all three !! :-).
The water is absolutely beautiful right now, and if possible it is predicted to get better as the week goes on with, according to Michael, undetectable surf on Wednesday morning !!
Sadly, Fiona Dobrijevich found a beautifully coloured dead sea dragon this morning. It’s lovely to know they’re out there in our bay but sadly I’ve only ever see them when people bring in the dead ones. I’d love to see a live one swimming with us !!
Michael Christie and Nick TB Dowson have committed to a 6.20am early lap tomorrow morning. Anyone want to join them ??
How about a B&B weekend in Canberra…
Ben Hutt & Collie Kinsella are keen to swim the 9km Lake Burley Griffin swim solo on Sunday 13th November.
To learn more about the event check out their website here.
If anyone else is keen to swim either solo or in a team, paddle as escort for one of the swimmers, or simply just come along for a fun weekend away please let us know by commenting on the blog. If there is enough interest I will see if we can a group discount on accomodation.
Tim’s fact of the day: “Electric Eels can reach up to 2 metres in length and larger specimens can generate 500 volts of electricity.”

Sea Dragons and pipe fish are notoriously difficult to see when they are alive. They are so very slender from above, and look very much like a frond of seaweed so it is probably a good thing we can’t spot them.
They do, seem to be badly affected by rain and runoff. I often find their lifeless bodies after prolonged storms when lots of silt and detritus are in the water. However, it is believed that the females die after laying eggs, which appears to be a fairly energetic process for the dragon girls. This might be the case for the pretty dragon pictured above, hopefully.

Excuse me for asking the bleemin’ obvious, but what on earth is the attraction of swimming 9km in the murky, dirty waters of Burley Griffin when we have the most paradisical swimming conditions right here in Manly?
Oh, I see, picturesque Canberra the city as such is the main draw card in this excursion. I get it.

Anna, excellent point 🙂

Yes If we get any questions about female politicians, c 1970- 90, we’re a shoo-in Anna! I have a very limited knowledge base…. But was just wanting to put the word out there again – I am looking for a babysitter for a couple of mornings a week so I can swim more – they would need to come to my apartment just up the hill from 6:45 to 7:45 (or, ok, sometimes 8:30). Any morning except Wed would be great. Does anyone know any eager early birds who love kids? My email is julia.bairdATgmail.com if anyone has any clues…

Fabulous Julia, you’ll fit right in with the rest of us 🙂
I’ve posted your babysitter request (sans email details and name) on my FB wall. Fingers crossed we get some takers quickly so we can have you swimming more.
