08/03/2017 โ€“ The Return of some Special Swimmers

March 8, 20178

I’ve been swimming since 2012 and was lucky enough to be present when a young doctor by the name of John Jackson turned up for a swim. At the time Dr Patrick was in charge of new Doctors and used to tell them all they had to do a B&B swim! He knew it would make them happy and bright and get to know lots of great people I suppose…Dr John came along and became a much loved regular swimmer with his warmth, friendliness, charm and cute lop-sided grin! Little Sarah was at that time also a regular swimmer and loved by us all. Yesterday they both visited us from distant shores. John from Cardiff, UK for 2 days and LSA is over from Hong Kong for 2 months! (John, Sarah and I re-enact the photo we are holding up from 4 years ago!)

A dull, windy and wet old day didn’t put off these regulars from turning up for their 7am vitamin sea.

Little Sarah’s lovely hubby Jon is also back. Here he is in the middle of Lips,Sarah, Wendy, Jill, Kerry and Derek. (With a failed photo bomb from Fireman Ken!)

Sorry for the late blog, only just got home from a busy day teaching. It was choppy with some waves but nothing like conditions on other beaches in our protected corner.

Warm but murky water but still loads of smiles at Shelly.

There was a funny current at Shelly that pushed you in to other swimmers. Inge used this as an excuse to get up close and personal with some of the male swimmers!

Lips gets a bit worried…

It’s ‘International Womens Day’! Here are the wonderful ‘WOW’s’ (Women of the Wall).

Bella and Sparkles enjoy a cuddle with Dr John. The good news is Dr John may be back if he gets a job here. Yay!

We sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to birthday girl, Alex.

Back at the Surf Club with Edwina, Justus, Ian and Kath Jackson -no relation to Dr John Jackson (yet ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰ )!!

A photo from yesterday with Tania, Dr John, Sparkles, Jenny and Joe.

It was Tomas’s birthday yesterday but the blog camera I borrowed was a bit water-logged.

The lovely Nat also celebrated her 36th birthday!

Dr John with good buddies, Joe and Alex, also yesterday.

Monthly Dinner โ€“ Chat Night!

The next B&B monthly dinner will be on Tuesday 14thย March at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant.ย Come along and have a chat with your swimming buddies, or meet new ones. This is always a fun night, so donโ€™t miss out. The cost of the dinner is only $25 a head and includes shared entrees, a selection of mains to choose (incl a vegetarian option) and corkage (for byo wine only). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited,ย so bookings are essential.ย ย To avoid disappointment and secure your spot pleaseย BOOK HERE NOW,

2017 Summer Badge Ceremony โ€“ Sunday 2nd April

Youโ€™ve done the hard yards and got your Summer Badge(s), now come and collect your badges with all the pomp and ceremony the B&B can muster.ย  Bring along $10 for each badge you have earned (correct money appreciated). The venue is the Royal Far West Childrenโ€™s Home (opposite the beach) on Sunday 2nd April, straight after the regular swim! Everyone is welcome, family, friends and swimmers alike.

A $5 donation will be payable to the RFW at the gate for hosting this event, and …. RFW will provide a FREE breakfast (sausage sandwich and a coffee/tea). Bookings are essential to ensure there is enough food.ย ย Book here for Badge Breakfast

All 2017 summer badge qualifiers will be presented with their well earned badge(s), so whether you are getting one personally or you want to enjoy the celebrations of your fellow swimmers, a great morning is guaranteed so come along, soak up the atmosphere and get inspired for the upcoming winter badges…

Stats (haven’t a clue) so I’ll guess at 170 swimmers, 23.7 water, 1 newbie and no stingers.

To copy a line off Shelly aka Ian, love yous all

Lainey Loo xx

She’d also be a perfect swimming companion for you Bill….I once accompanied Dr John’s Mum swimming side-stroke to Shelley with her head up all the way, having a pause every few strokes….but we made it and that’s all that counts! All about being inclusive…. hope to see you soon! x
