06/09/2011 – Half Way Heros

September 6, 201130

45 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

There was a bit of a wave and a lot of water moving around off the beach so the half way heroes took their queue and wondered round to our beautiful half way beach.

Have you noticed how much the water has warmed up since Michael is back with his trusty thermometer… I must say there was some issue taken with that thermometer this morning as we embraced the waters edge !

Poor Claire got a mega blue bottle sting right across her face on the way back in, thankfully Anita was waiting for Attracta so the power of team work went into full flight: Anita tried to get the super sticky tentacle off Claire’s face, Attracta sprinted to the beach to get Michel, Nurse Christy appeared from nowhere and got some warm water from the coffee shop at Bower Lane, as Claire got to the changing rooms Libby vacated the hot shower for her immediately and Dr Cathie conducted her first ever naked shower consult 🙂 What a great team ! Hope you’re feeling better real soon Claire xx

Thanks for the great photos and the ‘rip rider’s’ video this morning Stephen :-). Check out the bluey, that’s big – ouch !

The video can be seen here

Debbie van Otter Hanson and Michelle Harris have submitted a lovely on tour photo of them watching the sunset from their balcony in Kas, gosh it looks tough.

Our champion channel swimmer Iain arrives back tomorrow morning !!  He’ll be swimming on Thursday morning, so please come down on Thursday morning for a swim so we can give Iain the heros welcome he deserves 🙂

Water Temperature 18.4 degrees.
Air Temperature 14 degrees.
Sunrise 6.08am.
Sunset 5.40pm.
Low Tide: 8.45am.
High Tide: 3.30pm.

Poor Claire….remember when there are blue bottles about don’t swim unless Iain is in the water! He attracts all blue bottles before they get to anyone else. I think he’s back tomorrow so we will all be safe again.

Back tomorrow but too late for a swim,
Sorry to hear about your sting Claire.
I’m guessing this summer could be another love affair with the blue bottles for me so definitely keen to here a report on the B&B blue bottle response team.
Will not believe it but on plane from Helsinki to Hong Kong, Dustin was a couple of seats away from me! Good to see that the B&B are everywhere.
Till tomorrow or the next day.

I hope your face is feeling better Claire. I think stand up paddle boarding sounds like a good idea :)or Linda’s suggestion, wait for Iain to go swimming with us again.
I love the camaraderie of the B&B! I have no worries swimming right up to my due date, as I now know, if something happens -I am definitely in good hands 🙂 xx

Someone has informed the blueys that Winter is over and they have appeared with avengence.Maybe thats why we all like Winter swimming. The cold water is nothing compared to a Bluebottle sting! Stand Up paddle boarding sounds like a great solution Clare.

    Im in,
Iain, will you be up for it? I hear you may feel a bit drained and exhausted. Must be all the ‘activities’ you’ve been doing over the past few weeks.

Good news!! The swell will have halved by tomorrow morning to a measly 0.9m, the sun will be out and the wind will be from the south west.
So, no need for half way and NO bluebottles!!
The water is still clear and the temperature will be 18-10c. Couldn’t be better!!!

I got a long tentacle wrapped around my arm. It was very useful really as it certainly got me back to speed and I made it to shore rather quickly. I have decided to get myself a long sleeved rashy as soon as possible as I don’t think the bare arms and decolletage are a great idea in bluebottle season.
The thought of those blueys made it very easy to cower under the covers at swim time this morning! I hope you all escaped unstung today. Ill try and brave the critters again tomorrow.
