BOLD & BEAUTIFUL IS NOT CURRENTLY RUNNING DUE TO THE IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL DISTANCING AND STAYING INSIDE AS MUCH AS IS POSSIBLE DUE TO CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)
You can’t beat a southern hemisphere winter day can you – blues skies and clear waters.
By midday 158 B&Bers had entered our pristine Manly waters and that number will no doubt edge up throughout the day.
Happy Friday to those who still follow the calendar.
Some of us have lost our sense of time over the past few months. I thought I’d ask everyone if this has happened to them and what has been the best time of day to swim.
We’ve all swum at different times over March, April and May. Thankfully as our permitted gathering size increases we can at least gather with more people for a post swim chat.
Happy significant milestone Birthday Clare Martin!
Above: Manly Beach – apparently 7.05am according to my phone on my walk to South Steyne.
Above: A gathering of 6.30ers post-swim – their calling for a swim has always been the 6.30am on the dot so no apparent time or calendar confusion here.
Above: Nik and Andrea have both worked through Covid and have had no problems with waking up and not knowing what day it is.
Above: Kieran says a Bold and Beautiful swim is all about forgetting about time.
Above: Rosemary, Sharon and Ian. Rosemary says she is slowly getting back her sense of time and says “thank God for Google calendars” to remind her what day it is. Multi-tasking manager and keeper of the cap, Ian, dashed off to do something so he must still have an awareness of time.
Above: Sally and Jody. Sally says her kids returning to school has provided a useful guide to what day of the week it is.
Above: Greg and Sue used to split the day in half with a midday swim in the strict isolation days but as the days have got cooler they have returned to earlier starts.
Above: Keith usually heads north on his daily swim.
Above: Ros and Paul. Ros now lectures online which brings her a sense of time and day after her swim.
Above: Errol and Richard. Errol is not fussed by days and enjoys being able to gather in smaller groups after a swim. Richard knows when its Sunday.
Above: Starters and finishers. A neck that rotates 360 degrees is an added advantage to avoid head-on collisions around the point.
Above: The answer to time may have been written in the sky above as we swam. The word eternity had blurred a bit by the time I took this photo but you get the idea!
For those for whom days are still significant, have a wonderful Queen’s holiday long weekend. If you are reading this in another part of the world, let us know where you are and whether time still matters to you there!
Vale Steve Priest – founding members of 70s glam rock band The Sweet who brought us The Ballroom Blitz and Fox on the run.
Play it really loud today in his memory!
Take care, stay safe – remember it ain’t over till it’s over.

2020 Once Off – Unique – Covid Winter Challenge
Read more below for full details
Due to Covid-19 and the current government guidelines limiting the number of people allowed to be in a group, Bold & Beautiful is still currently suspended.
But we recognise many of our swimmers are still swimming at various times and locations, and it is more important than ever to remain fit, healthy and connected.
As such, B&B is offering this unique, one off, Covid 2020 Winter Challenge Badge, kindly designed by our amazingly creative swimmer, Linda from Manly Mac Art.
To qualify for your Covid Winter Challenge Badge you need to swim 20 times across 7 different weeks of winter, between 1st June – 31st August.
If you are swimming at Manly, any time of the day, please continue to log your swim as Manly – Shelly Swim, this swim will not only count towards your Covid Winter Challenge Badge, it will also continue to count towards the Pacific Challenge.
If you are swimming in any other location, anywhere in the world, please tick your swim as ‘Covid Swim’, this will give you a special 19m on the Pacific Challenge and will count towards your Covid Winter Challenge.
Log your 20 (or more) swims without a wetsuit and you will be eligible for the special 2020 ICC (Ice Cold Corona) badge.
YOU MUST LOG YOUR SWIMS IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE YOUR COVID BADGE(S)

Adrian, thanks for the great blog on an important, but entirely relative, concept…
Time, time, time
See what’s become of me
While I looked around
For my possibilities
I was so hard to please
Look around
Leaves are brown
And the sky
Is a Hazy Shade of Winter

Thanks for your encouragement, Shelley.
Those lyrics are profound and make me feel a bit blue – think I need a vodka and lime!

Great Blog Adrian, and thank you for the mention Toni – sorry I missed you. Crazy busy with mortgages. A few more words on time …. I may have borrowed these words
So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it’s sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you’re older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.
Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over,
Thought I’d something more to say.
