76 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
There were definitely more than 76 swimmers today though, so who forgot to tick… :-(. Please check the badge tally opposite to make sure you’ve got your winter badge tick 🙂
Yesterday there were over 100 individuals who had swum since the start of winter, which was Wednesday, how many will it be today ??? It’s awesome to see all the people coming out of the wood work for their winter badge, great to see you all, it’s been a while for some of you 🙂
A great swim today, everyone went out through the waves although there were a couple of
surprisingly big ones that appeared just as we got out to the point.
Fish… apparently there were some, visibility, what’s that ?
Iain McGregor has continued on swimming this morning, hoping to complete 10 laps as training for his English Channel crossing in 10 weeks time… Enjoy and good luck Iain !
Fantastic photos this morning, the first three are courtesy of James Goins who swung past the beach especially to take these photos on his way to work, thanks James they’re stunning 🙂

Well, as for Iain’s 10 laps of Shelly and back today, he is currently up to 16 !!
It’s nearly 4pm and Iain wants to complete another 4 laps.
He has been very fortunate and has had company for many of his laps tpday, he has been accompanied by all of us for the first lap, then Collie Kinsela for a couple, Gaetan Guilhon for 4, Brendan Maher for 5, Michael Christie for 2 and a half and myself for 2.
Anyone keen to help Iain bring it home, especially as the last couple will be in the dark. You will be able to spot him, he is the pink cap floating back and forth from Manly to Shelly Beach 🙂

Congratulations Iain, what an outstanding effort, 20 laps – 30km with the last half lap in the dark !!!
Gaetan what a super star, jumping in again to finish the last two laps with Iain.
Oh and I should mention Michael was keen to accompany Iain for a few more laps but he lost his goggles in the hot chocolate break 🙁
Tim Ettle has the finishing photos, with Iain’s google and cap suntan lines as proof 🙂

Thank you very much Guys,
Especially a big thank you to everyone who swam with me including this mornings B & B and then especially: Collie, Brendan, Gaetan, Michael, Jules, and then Gaetan again. Having each of you in the water made a world of difference and I really appreciate it and was very grateful for the company.
Also Tim, Linda ,Nick and Iggy for popping by the site of your friendly faces was a great boost.
A few notable events from the day include:
1. Finding out from Collie that the water in the channel round the time I’m swimming was 18.5c last year (everything is now officially crossed that this temperature is replicated late August 2011)
2. The 4-5ft Wobbiegong giving me a shock by suddenly appearing out of the murky water with no prior warning.
3. The double egg and tomato sauce sandwich after 6 laps which seriously tasted joyous! (thanks Gaetan)
4. Brendan helping me all the way from 10 laps to 15 laps which were my two key progress goals.
5. Being half way over to Shelly and seeing the unmistakable site of pink speedos & cap silhouetted on the beach and finding myself speeding up in excitement to find out who was coming to play with me and then to be double rewarded to find not only Michael but Jules too there coming to join me and Brendan in the water.
6. The banana muffin that was inhaled in one bite and chased down by glorious hot chocolate. I’m pretty sure a saw someone who claims not to be a runner, flying like the wind back from Shelly to purchase this for me.
7. As the sun was setting and my nerves creeping in as light disappeared in the water, seeing a pink cap suddenly bob up next to me to bring help bring me home. Gaetan again thank you.
Now my shoulders blades do feel a little tight and my Channel Swim Mentor Collie(also the title bearer of the official successful channel crossing swim 749) recommended taking tomorrow off from swimming as a recovery day which I will do BUT I will come by and walk Manly to Shelly tomorrow and join you all for a coffee.
Thanks again all.
