You know it’s going t be a Good Day when…….

January 13, 20185

I knew today was going to be a Good Day when someone who was parked right across the road from the surf club pulled out just as I was drawing level with their vehicle. The gods of parking must have decided that it was my turn, and for that I am thankful.

This morning was very cloudy and humid, and the light was lovely. Thanks again to the IOS developers who have allowed us to create some fun effects like this one

There were quite a few people starting at 6:30 today, even for a Saturday

Conditions a little rougher than the past few days

Such beauty heading out

Most bloggers have the stats at the end of the blog, but not today. A bouncy 23.0 degrees today with about 452 swimmers of whom 39 did it for the first time.

Yes, 39 newbies!!! Almost 10% of the people who swam today did for the first time. That’s pretty amazing. Welcome all newbies to what must be the worst kept secret on the Northern Beaches. Hope you enjoyed yourselves.

We have had hundreds of new swimmers so far this summer, taking part of this wonderful, inclusive, fun way to start the day. So many happy people wandering around Manly….

Here are Anne and Maria busily welcoming newbies

And some fiercely territorial WOWs

Some of the 400 plus

Here is the Procession Of The 7am

I tried (not all that successfully) to get some arty shots of people swimming through waves

until I realised most people were well on their way to Shelley and I had to get a wriggle on.

A view of the 7am crowd at Shelley

Followed by some fine blog tarting

Gillian – one of the best blog tarts

There was an announcement about the 6km, that is was on. Hope all the 6km swimmers had fun today

Heading back

Visibility was not good at all today. I decided to head back close go the wall (aka The Scenic) with no expectations of seeing much of anything, so I was very delighted to see this extremely mellow, big blue Groper very close to Shelley. Probably our mate Curious George. I was so close I could have touched him, but didn’t of course, because that’s not allowed and I was grateful to just get close to such a gorgeous creature.

This is Natalia who is recently back from maternity leave. We got out at half way and walked back.

Here is one of the fine Manly lifeguards watching out. Love your work, lifeguards

Post swim relaxation – some fit and happy looking swimmers

Here’s Freddy and a friend enjoying a well earned snack

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

ALL NEWBIES:
Please handwrite your email address neatly and you will be rewarded with an email from Pacific Jules!!

As the Summer long distance swimming season approaches, management thought that it would be a good time to clarify what it takes to earn a badge. Three long distance swims are on offer:

· The 6 km swims are held every summer Saturday morning generally starting with the 7 am swim. The first 6 km swim will be on Saturday 2nd December.

· There is a 10 km swim once a month over summer also generally starting with the 7 am swim. Dates for these will be announced in the blog. The first will be on December 16th.

· If these swims are too long for you, you can try a Triple Manly to Shelly swim any day during Summer (distance 3.5 km) from 6.30 or 7 am.

You will earn a badge if you complete these swims and log them in iLog. The system will only record authorised 6K or 10K swims that are logged on the appropriate days. Badges will be presented at the Summer Badge Ceremony in March. If you are unsure of the routes and protocols for these swims, please ask at the desk before you swim. When swimming these longer distances, we request that, for safety reasons, you stay with the group. We also request that you do not swim in dangerous conditions. The quest for a little cloth badge is not worth putting your life at risk.

Enjoy your swimming.

Sample badge from before:

The upcoming Cole Classic is coming to Manly on 04 February, and the surf club wishes to apply as many Bronze Medallion qualified lifesavers as they can to water safety.

Those interested and able to help out with the running of this years event –

If you can donate any time to help with beach side activities

– bag control, registrations, lost children etc.

Can you please email our own Jim Stackpool who will coordinate with club? It’s a great way to give back to and build good relationships with Manly LSC whose members are VERY patient with us as they go about their various activities.

email Jim – jjs@scat.com.au
or talk to him during the swim.

Ask at the desk to point out Jim if you do not know him.

Found in ladies change room this morning – two piece swim suit, black bottoms and pretty blue and white patterned top. See me at the sign-in table in the morning.
