Thursday 5 May 2016. Be Prepared

May 5, 201613

Swimming is a magical activity that requires little equipment. And I think it is vital to be prepared at all times. But today I arrived for my swim without swimmers so I had a choice – miss the swim or swim with my street clothes. I swam with my street clothes.

Here is a swimmer who was better prepared

Time in before swim mode with a swimmer mate who is about to get ready

Mike is prepared

Here is Lisa whose excellent blog yesterday made me feel a bit old – I could not remember being young and wanting to grow up to do anything in particular. It has been a bad week. With Nick an excellent swimmer (and, from the T shirt, possibly a skier) with whom I have had work dealings. A small world? Or is it that loads of swimmers are lawyers by day?

Already suited up

I am a bit late getting in (I start at 6:53 to get to Shelly) but Dave is already drying off. He is better prepared.

Ash from San Francisco got a jimble in her swimmers today. Yikes. She was swimming at 6 am and could not see them. Lucky she came prepared with a pair of hands to cover up while getting her swimsuit off to check the stings

The Eastern suburbs crowd. Very friendly and very wise.

Tim got ready in a flash and swam to Shelly in a flash

Shelly is bursting with personality – so much so that she does not even need to make strokes to get across the water. She surges by the force of personality alone. I did ask for a no-tongues out shot though… And Inge too. it is contagious.

Phil had some pointers for me on technique. Most welcome.

Here are the silver wet suit triathletes. They are going in a triathlon in Cairns in 5 weeks time and they are training from 6 am to prepare. I would photograph them and the others at 6 am if I could get there but this will do. Good luck in your events

Here is some post swim preparation for the rest of the day. That bowl apparently has acai berries in it – looks like it chocolate mousse to me. yum.

Temperature is just above 20 today. If you are going to be BE PREPARED and are not endowed with bioprene like me, there is a wetsuit sale that BB members can take advantage of . details are below. It is TOMROOW 6 May from 6.30 am. Jim is looking at 20 degrees as the cut off point at which his rash vest goes and his wet suit appears. If that is your approach, note the sale below.

What I have been reading:

This week I have bought to start “Our Vietnam Nurses” stories of the young women who went to the Vietnam War but whose stories we have not much heard.  looks very good. Also, will be reading anything by our BB Lisa. Get writing Lisa.

Great blog Elizabeth. I’ve never been called an excellent swimmer before! And I share the pain of our San Franciscan friend. I was jimble’d on the nipple today. luckily I wasn’t wearing my two piece bikini so it didn’t get trapped.

Ha, ha…yes, Ash gets the “Bold & Beautiful” prize….
I’d have liked to see a pic of you swimming in your “street clothes”, E Original! Did you go dripping into your law office in them too? At least your colleagues will really know you swam:)
Fabulous blog as usual A full day’s work before you get to the office, THANK YOU!
And for those thinking of a swim in the early morning, conditions couldn’t be more perfect now! Love my early swims.x

Damn! That 15 minutes of fame is so fleeting!
Great blog Elizabeth! I really liked all the solutions to the many problems of this mornings swim – your creativity solving the forgotten costume, Ash’s ingenuity solving the jimble stings and Shelley and Inga proving that a little light humour combined with a bountiful personality can take everyone’s minds off the problem of cooler water temps at Shelley.
    Great swim! ……..again!!
