stop and smell the roses.

November 14, 201624

Today a friend of mine is having her fifth round of surgery for breast cancer, and I was reminded we all need to remember to be grateful for every day we get to stop and smell the roses. The view at North Steyne where I park my car welcomed me down to swim, even it was 6am!

Emma and Fiona always enjoy their time down here, and any time spent with the WOW’s ensure’s lots of giggles. They rise early to stomp around with Storch and his bunch at 6am.

Alex is doing his bit for promoting mens health and womens health with his Movember Moustache- can’t wait to see you at the end of November Alex.

I”m always inspired by the 6am and 6.30 swimmers as well as the booty campers, I”m still asleep when they start their exercise. The dark sky started to appear before we even entered the water, yet we were blessed with no rain.

Elaine had a run before her swim and bumped into Sarah and I chatting about our next big swim.

Greg and Sue are always a tonic and I bet they make the most of every day too.

I headed off early to meet everyone at Shelly, and this was my first greeting at the other end. The only fish I saw today too.

As I entered the water at 6.50am I crossed paths with Chris after his morning run on the beach, yet he was first to Shelly with Robyn and Derek, super fast and smooth they are in the water, and out of the water too for that matter. I sat between Chris and Greg at dinner last week and enjoyed their singing all night 🙂

Rainer gave me some advice for the next big swim I do with Sarah, and I”m sure he got the nod of approval from Mary, both very experienced swimmers with the pink caps.

everyone’s happy to wait for the last arrivals and have a catch up at the same time.

Jo the newbie was feeling the love from the women who acompanied him to Shelly and back, always a welcoming bunch.

One of our swimmers Rochelle saw this bloke in Melbourne recently with a pink cap on, maybe she should have sent him up our way again?? Love anything Italian 🙂

poor bloke has been put on blog sideways!

We had a perfect view from Bluewater today, where everyone had a chinwag, and Sheena gave me advice for my holidays next year.

Only the rare jimble sighting today, this jelly swam with me on Saturday afternoon.

Manly on a Sunday these days:

I don’t like crowds generally so I prefer my Monday swims:

Now for business: there were four newbies today, water temp was 18.9, not sure of attendance-I”m guessing 100?

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

The B & B Christmas Party this year will be held on Tuesday 13th December at 6.30 pm in the Moonshine Bar (2nd Floor) at the Steyne Hotel. All swimmers and partners/friends are welcome (no under 18s unfortunately). The theme again this year is simply “Christmas”. So come dressed in your finest Christmas paraphernalia. Lots of fun and dancing are guaranteed, with music by a fantastic rock band “Gluteus Maximus”. The cost is $10 per head, with all proceeds going to the running costs of the B&B. Book HERE now! Don’t miss out on this fun event, numbers are limited.

Have a great week everyone 🙂

Important note: the memorial swim for Ed Selby will be on Saturday with the regular 7am start, all welcome to help send him off with his sons and family present 🙂
