Today is one of those days that we live for.
Gorgeous blue skies, warm water for April and friendly faces for our daily ritual – glorious!
Like most mornings over the last few months, whilst waiting at ‘the point’ for “Let’s Go”, I look out to see the array of swimmers spread across the bay. Often many are so far across, they are nearly at Shelly!
So it got me thinking. We swim to ‘the point’, to wait at ‘the point’, then past ‘the point’ and back to ‘the point’, so…… “where exactly is the point”?
6am – ‘the point’ is somewhere out there.
6.20am – the boardriders head out past ‘the point’
So….I asked the 6.30 crew Sarg and Greg (Sarg was too ‘shy’ to be photographed) – “where is the point?”
The answer: 1) opposite the telegraph pole but where you can’t see the Surf Club 2) where the Sarg says ‘the point’ is
I then asked Issy, who just pointed to the point and said “out there”, but where?
So then I asked birthday boy Stephen (pictured here with John from Melb), who said “it’s out there!”.
Happy birthday Stephen, I hope you make the point of having a fabulous day!
I then asked Shawn who had done a very early swim.
He pointed out that the ‘rules’ state that “the point is where you can still see the Surf Club and that management have final say”.
I asked the 6am booty campers.
They wanted to make the point that ‘the point’ is a point where you all come together as a community!
I even asked the dog. He just turned and looked out to ‘the point’. So what was the point of asking him??
So still confused I went to ask some ‘sensible people’.
This is the WOW group – the Woman of the Wall group (ok, there are a few honorary blokes in there too)
“At the back of where everyone stops, so I don’t get swum over”, “out there and turn right” and “where everyone waits, often half way to Shelly” were among the answers.
Still no consensus, so let me ask David P aka’Mr Perfect’. Surely he knows.
“It’s out there, off the rocks where you can just see the Surf Club”
I feel I am getting closer to resolving this…….
Let’s find some people that look like they have been doing this for a long time.
“It’s out there, where you can see the clock on the club house” said Ian F.
Today was a ‘high point’ for Ian Forster in hitting 2,000km today – great achievement Ian, well done!
Finally I spoke to JK, aficionado of Let’s Go and he said, “The point of the point is it’s about safety and social. Keeping us together as one group, just like when it started, social and for safety”
So there you have it ladies and gents. What’s the point? The point is….the point is…..it’s about social and safety. Keeping us together.
The stats for the day:

How cool were those long, rising waves near t.h.e-p.o.i.n.t this morning! They travelled a long way, with a great non-breaking ride into the air. Fab sensation 🙂

Great blog Fiona! Lots of fun photos! My point of view about the point is it’s the point where you can point to the view of the surf club. Or is that Pointless??
