As seen on TV

September 1, 201112

Yet another Mega blog……get a cuppa and read on.

Today’s  turnout:  33 swam and welcome to the 4 newbies

Professor Nick TB’s official temp reading: 17.6

First day of spring and there definitely seemed to be more flesh than neoprene this morning. Beautiful flat conditions and great visibility so much marine life out there it was stunning. Vibrant yellow catfish displaying its beauty out by the point along with some of the biggest groupers I have ever seen.

There was also a definite lack of some familiar faces this morning and judging by the comment left on the blog yesterday to the Dardanellians swimmers i think we know why ‘love from Jenny K Anna A Sarah W Elaine K Julie S (we are all at Sarahs place celebrating for you!!!!)

Fact of the day: Shrimp can only swim backwards.

Funny story of the day ( From Stephen C): Fastest individual 1 mile run wearing swim fins

Stephen C Pics:
Rob, Nick TB &  Pete working it!  ( this is one for the laaaaaaaaadies) They are for hire if anyone is interested. ( Hen Parties, Birthdays and private functions 🙂

———————–———————————————–

WOW –  did you see the 9 News on TV last night, No? well  check out the link below.

Cool eh!

A quick update from Jules with some of the details requested – out of our little 11 the times were:

Julie Isbill 51:49
John Bond 53:34
Rosemary Rogge 54:22
Debbie (van Otter) Hanson 57:46
Greg Manning 1:03:19  which is remarkable as Greg really didn’t think
he would finish as he has had two operations on his back in recent
months, including one this month – terrific Greg well done !
Vicki Harbutt 1:03:35
Michael Christie 1:03:46
Michelle Harris 1:06:08
Izzy Kirk 1:08:16
Michael Appleby 1:09:35
Mahdi Deaton 1:14:38

Sensational times as you can see, we all came in very close together which was great, there was a continual flow of pink acrossthe finish line 🙂

So many firsts and as I have said many times already, a massive achievement for everyone here !

Mahdi our newly acclaimed media celebratory (check out the nine msnlink) said 200m from the start that she thought she wouldn’t make it as she couldn’t get her breathe, but then she thought “Jules will be so disappointed if all the team don’t make it across the finish line” so she put her little head down and swam her heart out all the way to that glorious finish line.  Mahdi I am so proud you did !!  Thank you 🙂 xx

The group has now halved as 6 of us headed back to Istanbul and the other 6 headed south down the coast, all continuing on their well deserved holidays.

You will see John, Michael C and myself back home at regular B&B on Sunday morning and the rest will trickle back over the coming weeks, apart from Greg who is heading back to the UK until he joins us on our next ‘on tour’ adventure 🙂

It really has been a wonderful trip, better than I think any of us ever imagined, thank you all !

Congratulations to everyone on their winter badge achievements; 133 people qualified for their badge and ~400 individuals swam during winter, not to mention Neil who only missed one winter swim !  Wow,wow, wow a what a bunch of little achievers we are 🙂

Belated congratulations to all our overseas swimmers! Sorry I am a bit behind the times – until yesterday I thought the Dardanelles was a sixties rock group.
    See you soon.

Congrats again to all the Dardanellians!!
These winter badge numbers are clearly inaccurate! I have been over them and I am pretty sure the count should be 134…
I have carried an extra person on all of my 20+ swims (No, I don’t mean Princess Pete) kicking and complaining most of the way (Just like Princess Pete!)
I’m pretty sure this little one inside of me deserves a badge too 🙂

by my calculations, B&B did 5,262 winter swims.allowing 1.2 km per swim, taking into account some half way beach swims in big surf and walks back because of hangover (mentioning no names)that means well over 6,000kms covered between Manly and shelly at 7.00am in the coldest three months of the year. pretty impressive !!!

Sheri, you are absolutely right, and it is only right that baby gets a badge too which will be stiched on to baby bonnet or singlet. How cute!
Consequently, baby needs a name like Dolph(in), Dory, Nemo or Mermaid 🙂
Any other name suggestions from baby’s fellow swimmers?

    Thanks Anna.
I’m hoping this little one will be swimming in person with the B&B soon.
Any baby name suggestions would be greatly appreciated as the names suggested by Princess Pete are well…not the greatest 🙂
With the last name of Bowes – it’s not easy
    Rain Bowes
    Elle Bowes
and the list goes on 🙂

Apologies for yesterday and the water temp debacle. Turns out Michel hadnt shown his Thermometer the ways of the world. As a consequence, within a week, he(Obviously a he) ends up down Leslie’s cossie. It took me 2 days to bring him back to functional state. Lots of rebooting..

Of course baby bump deserves a badge, we’ll have to get onto Magnus to update the spreadsheet…
    I can’t wait to present baby with it’s badge… 😉
