01/03/2012 – Autumn Treats

01/03/201214

56 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

First day of Autumn swimming today and what a treat it was too !

There was even some blue sky which must have been for Catriona’s birthday as she flew all the way over from Perth to share her special day with us… 😉  Have a great birthday Catriona !

This morning’s highlights were a beautiful Giant Cuttlefish just off the point and a Numbfish off Shelly.  Click to here watch a short video of the Numbfish swimming.  The first three photos below are all of the same Cuttlefish !  They change colour and texture to match to terrain they are swimming over.  Look out for them tomorrow they are truly remarkable.

Claire, Gaetan and Michel were extra privileged this morning seeing a nocturnal Blind Shark at the point.  Check out Gaetan’s awesome video footage of the Blind Shark, Port Jackson Shark, Cuttlefish and much much more here 🙂

Check out Todd’s beard… he is not shaving until his partner gives birth to their baby.  Hope it’s born soon Todd 😉

Thanks to Manly Wine for another lovely evening last night at our monthly sponsored nibbles !!

Mary Stollery has very kindly donated Bold & Beautiful swimmers 20 complimentary tickets to the show ‘Every Single Saturday’ at Glenn St Theatre for the last three extended performances this week:

  • Thursday at 7.30pm

  • Saturday matinee at 2pm

If you would like to take advantage of this unique opportunity please phone the box office on 9975 1455 and say you would like ‘x’ number of B&B Complementary tickets.

Now onto our amphibious B&B swimmers, we have two teams participating in the 50km Coastrek endurance walk tomorrow to raise money for the sight restoring work of The Fred Hollows Foundation!

If you would like to sponsor either or both teams please do so below:

Elaine Kindred’s team – Kindred Spirits

Ragnill says a special hello to everyone from Norway.  Rangill misses us so has been looking through her Manly photos and found these two beautiful shots that her husband, Grim took in early December.  We miss you too Ragnill, thanks for the photos.

It seems number of photos/video uploads is directly proportional the clarity of the water 🙂

Look out for Cousteau and the Pink Teletubbie

Gaetan is lucky to get away alive 🙂
“The blind shark is basically harmless to humans, though it can bite if provoked and is difficult to remove, owing to its strong jaws and powerful suction.”

Anyone else see this in the SMH on Tuesday?

Sewage still overwhelms beaches in wet weather
MORE than half of Sydney’s beaches were not consistently safe for swimming this summer and the frequency of raw sewage flowing into the city’s creeks and stormwater drains after heavy rain has not improved in the past 15 years.

Yes, looking at this link below and the video there of “cross-dresser”, I think you’re right, Jules, Jane & Gaetan, and it was a Giant Cuttle-fish we saw too:

The one we I showed Jon was no more than a third of the way back from Shelly to the point, near the rock area. It was about 12 inches in diameter, with a full circular dress with frill, light blue in colour (when we saw it), almost florescent. Not shy at all either. Beautiful!
We looked around for others to show it to, but everyone was way ahead – you’re all too fast for us:-)

I used to worry about this but I haven’t been sick AT ALL for the whole year I have been living at Shelly – i think my immunity has improved with the exposure to the sewage! hee hee … however my last batch of tiddlers do have 2 heads 😀

… and its inability to see what it’s actually bitten. It’s all well and good saying we’re not on a shark’s normal diet, but try telling that to one that can’t see. Fingers crossed you’re not tasty.

Yeah Roberto, I’ll get up early to swim through poo in dark water infested with blind sharks, why the hell not. 0610 see ya.

6.10 is pitch dark, specially with the clouds! QC might be choppy with 10ft expected, James and I were planning to meet around 6:20.
Check out magicseaweed, 16ft next week!
