12/07/2012 – New Mascot, Newfoundland

12/07/201212

69 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

With Bruce and John amongst the first to arrive

They were closely followed by our new team mascot who is in there somewhere… Juno, the big fluffy cuddle ball, otherwise known as a Newfoundland.  Seriously cute and very popular !!

The sea was a lot calmer than yesterday

although somewhat deceptive as their was a lot of water moving around.

It’s lovely to have the sun well clear of the horizon now as we gather off the point

It’s not so lovely however, to have a swarm of jimbles back in the bay

leaving their mark… check out Ted’s arm below

Especially when the scars from last week haven’t had time to heal yet…

Nothing stops the smiles though 🙂

As it’s always a fabulous swim !!!

This morning’s highlights included this lovely big Flathead just off Shelly Beach

and this beautiful Eastern Fiddler Ray half way across the bay

With a few waves coming through there was quite a rip running in the corner making it a little challenging to come back to shore unless you remembered to follow Michael’s tips and keep nice and wide.

Some swimmers are still heading out early to enjoy the dawn from the ocean, a couple headed north up to Queensie and a couple into Shelly.  Four more got their extra distance in too, but with a double lap afterwards.

Latest news from some of our B&B swimmers on tour…

Ragnill and Hilde have managed to find a small lake up in the woods surrounding Trondheim, Norway (a 30 min bike ride from their home) where they can swim more than 20 strokes, as they think it could be as warm as 18 degrees in the lake !!  They said even though the water is very clear and clean it’s always so dark in the fresh water lakes, not like the beautiful salt water.  They miss us and say hi to you all.

Dave Brown is about to swim in Crater Lake in San Francisco

And simply just another pink tantrum from Michelle Harris… well indirectly at least 😉

We currently have 35 people booked in for our next monthly special B&B dinner at Bluewater on Monday 30th July.  If we get at least 50 bookings we will have the whole restaurant to ourselves again !! 🙂  It was a fantastic night last month with superb food so don’t miss out… please book in now by clicking here

Dinner is $20 each including shared entrees, a selection of mains to choose (incl vegetarian option), corkage (for byo wine only) plus a little thank you from each of us to the staff !  All beers (including 4 pines) and desserts only $5.

Those Jimballs are nasty, I react to them so badly, its the reason why I haven’t swam in roughly 3 weeks! I still have nasty scars on my legs from Anzac day.. Perhaps I should just invest in a wetsuit 🙂

if not a badge, maybe a toast of some kind to you brave bods that keep fronting up to face them. gotta say my wetsuit seems to be doing a good job keeping nasty stings at bay…

Yes, jimbles were nasty this morning. Respect to those heroes swimming without wetsuits.. I was covered neck to ankle and they still managed to get hold of my wrists and neck!! All worth it though.. as usual! 🙂

I have one and it’s good – works really well – not too bad to swim in and not restrictive.
Hee hee love the toddler picture – so funny!

The photos of the jimbles look fearsome – glad I only received a small sting on the face. Hope those scars fade soon, Ted and Stephen. Lesley, do the stretchy suits come in pink?

Rainer, I was looking for you at Shelly, my new swim partner! Hope you, Ted and everyone else has recovered from the stings. Jimbles were certainly out in force today!

Little Sarah! I’m so sorry we didnt get to swim together this morning. Apart from those brutal first few seconds when the surf knocked you off your fins.. 🙂 Unfortunately, weekdays I have to swim a sneaky shortcut back from shelly to halfway beach as the wife needs me home for breakfast with the little one by 7:40 so she can catch her ferry. Promise I’ll be your reliable swim partner on weekends though!!
PS: recovered from jimble stings, but still angry at the buggers!! 🙂

Great Photos and blog Jules…you need a bravery award to get those shots of the jimbles..How did you persuade the jimbles to be hot pink…One day I will open my eyes underwater as I am swimming, and I might catch a glimpse of them….Love the baby with the goggles photo- that’s how I feel about my goggles some days!
