05/11/2012 – Sea Traffic

05/11/201226

Over 90 Bold & Beautiful swimmers

were welcomed by a bit of a surf

and a whole lotta white water this morning

some of us got our kicks by going out through it and others sensibly walked round to half way beach to start their swim

The beauty is, it doesn’t matter where you start, as we all come together at Shelly 🙂

Bruce B had 2 of his 3 children swimming with us this morning.  Tomorrow maybe we’ll have the trifecta for Melbourne Cup ?? 😉

Everyone’s landed.  Time to head back to Manly, where again, some headed back through the surf

and the rest of us, who prefer less adventure before breakfast, cruised back to half way where we participated in a touch of sea traffic control

directing Neil R, fresh from the UK where he swims in the Thames with the Outdoor Swimming Society, the rock free route to shore

THE DUSKIES ARE BACK !! 🙂  Chris N was the first to report a sighting for the season as he saw one on the early lap this morning, sightings were also confirmed during the regular swim, but unfortunately not by anyone with a camera.

9 swimmers enjoyed the 5.50am Bolderdash, Francois a lone 6am Shelly and another 10 an early 6.30 lap of Shelly.  Brian, Joe and Michael also continued on for a double after the regular swim too.

Simon’s photos and report on this morning’s Bolderash for those of us who missed it: we set off from “”way out the back””, past the exercisers on the beach and a beautiful sunrise over the bower.  There was a big swell in both directions ending with a nice wave ride into Manly.

Stunning photos of the sun quite literally rising over the ocean this morning, courtesy of James G.

Corinne and Nigel have got themselves a new badge !!  Very fitting seeing as though their team name was ‘It’s All About The Badge” 🙂

Melbourne Cup swim tomorrow, if you like an excuse for a dress up, feel free to come in your best outfit, fascinator or hat.

Water Temperature 19.1
Air Temperature 17.0
Sunrise 5.51am
Sunset 7.27pm
Low Tide: 6.31am
High Tide: 12.59pm

Tomorrow looks to be going to turn out ok!! Good news for the Boldercrawlers in the morning!
The wind will be NE with gusts up to 35kph, but generally about the 25kph only.
    It will be CLOUDY.
The swell will be about the same as today but it will be Quieter in Queensie? I think because the swell is mostly NE.
    Water temp will be 19c.
I might even come down for it.

May i claim the first dusky sighting? as I rounded the point yesterday, i found myself right above a lovely one, swimming about very nicely against the white sand.
I watched it for a bit, then as it was about to pass directly beneath a group of swimmers nearby, I shouted, called and pointed to them that there was a shark underneath them. Unfortunately it was a couple of newbies with Sandy, who was then forced to desperately persuade them that I didn’t say “shark” as they were too terrified to put their faces in the water after that. And here’s me giving them the treat of a lifetime in case they missed it. I was so excited.
Anyway…was a lovely swim this morning and it was fun being idiotic underwater up at queensie for Simon’s pic…

You had me at NE with gusts of up to 35kph..
How on earth does that sound like good conditions to you?? 🙂

    Great sunrise photos!! wow!!!
And I agree Rainer – Conditions for bolderdash tomorrow don’t sound that good! I prefer to wait for flat conditions! Thursday looks WAY better??

Hmmm not a fan of the swell, can I start at half way, swim out then go to queenside and back?

Contemplating doing my first bolderdash for my birthday tomorrow. Am I crazy?!
Hopefully the weather is good or the clouds provide a great sunrise 🙂

A belated thanks to Little Sarah and Jon for putting up the B&B merchandise prize that I won at the trivia night raffle, although you are indirectly reposnsible for there being one more middle aged man in pink budgies! Look forward to seeing you again in December.

It’ll be about the same as this morning which is really not too bad.

B OM forecast for every day since Saturday has said dangerous surf condition for ocean activities including swimming and fishing. Saturday and Sunday were both fine for bolderdash. So Don’t be put off . If you can get out past the breakers you will be fine. But then again, as Michael’s tips for the surf suggest, know your own limitations.

Sorry Alyson, I’m quite literally a ‘fair weather’ bolderdasher. Swallowing enough water when conditions are calm! 🙂
Will post later if I change my mind but at this stage it’s the normal 7am swim for me..

Agree, Thursday / Friday boldercrawl looks much more appealing. At least in terms of wind.
But we’d have to put up with quite a bit of rain it seems. Am I too fussy or is it just not a good week for the bowldercrawl?

Hello there..I was the other newbie and yes I did feel more than a little anxious but didn’t want to let sandy down by screaming too much! We were given our pink hats last week but I’m not sure that I will ever be Bold (or Beautiful for that matter) in the water but will keep persevering!!
