With a spring in their step, as both the air and the water were above 20 degrees ! Positively balmy 😉

The way back rewarded us with 3 beautiful duskies.
They’re actually quite hard to photograph (unless you’re Gaetan or Francois that is) as they’re quite shy, so as you try to get close to them they swim away 🙁
Across the middle it was like swimming through a playground of squidgy jelly balls. E-Lane thought they were therapeutic 🙂
I found a lovely Wobbe at the point too, well until I swam down to it and it transformed into a rock !

as people fly in from all over the world to swim with us. This morning we had Bert from Germany and Frances from WA 🙂
10 Bolderdash, 14 early lappers and 5 swimmers continued on for a double.
‘Official’ Long distance Summer Badge swims start THIS SATURDAY 1st December ! To
kick it off you can join in either the 6km or the 10km swim, both starting at 7am
with the regular 7am swim.

- For all of you 10k daemons Mark Allan is going to lead you ! John B, Francois and Shaun are confrimed starters for the 10km so don’t be shy, join them and give it a go 🙂

I do belive Mullet is the term used.
Taxonomically, the family is currently treated as the sole member of the order Mugiliformes, but as Nelson[2] says, “there has been much disagreement concerning the relationships” of this family. The presence of fin spines clearly indicates membership in the superorder Acanthopterygii, and in the 1960s they were classed as primitive perciforms,[3] while others have grouped them in Atheriniformes[citation needed].
In North America, “mullet” by itself usually refers to Mugilidae. In Europe, the word “mullet” is usually qualified, the “grey mullets” being Mugilidae and the “red mullets” or “surmullets” being Mullidae, notably members of the genus Mullus, the red mullets. Outside Europe, the Mullidae are often called “goatfish”. Fish with common names including the word “mullet” may be a member of one family or the other, or even unrelated such as the freshwater white sucker (Catostomus commersonii).

I would interpret the term lead very broadly.

Yes, great shot of the smiley swimmer. Can’t be Lesley – no white rash vest. No wetsuit either, so that eliminates quite a few more. Obviously a good and relaxed swimmer….

SS thanks so much for that clarification, extremely obvious for even the most ignorant now and I don’t think we’ll continue to hear mullet incorrectly referred to as Duskys again!!!!
To dumb it down even further you can tell them apart when we are swimming by the following;
Rhinomugil nasutus (Shark Mullet) ‘have four anal spines, three anal soft rays, the dorsal fins are dark slate grey, silvery on flanks and abdomen’ I.M.A. Weener and I.P.Freely, 1997
Carcharhinus obscurus (Dusky Whaler) ‘ have only three anal spines, three anal soft rays, the dorsal fins are dusky grey and underside of the pectoral fins are are a light grey. I.M.A Normusbutt and Hugh.J.Ass, 1998.
I think that should put all the mistaken identifications to bed for now!

The mystery a) swimmer and b) wave catcher continues – if the b) is Jenny K, then she’s changed her wetsuit. As Manly’s Top Model contestant yesterday, she was modelling the sleeveless number. The wave catcher is modelling a full wetsuit!
