19/1/13 – Separation Anxiety

19/01/201312

The tributes for Michael and Jules are still rolling in from far and wide, with some beautiful comments posted overnight from all corners of the world, some amazing video and pics, and today’s story in the Manly Daily, setting quite the scene for a triumphant return one day soon!

We’ve got a little something to ease the separation anxiety… this just in about an hour ago.. So far Michael has added 6.9km in the Murrumbidgee and survived a mud wrestle with a territorial Murray Cod. The good news is there’s no jimbles or bluebottles…

As part of the ongoing festival of saying goodbye to Jules and Michael, Manly decided to close the entire beach and have a surf carnival in their name…

They even had pink flags as a special tribute… thanks Manly SLSC!

Some of the Bold & beautiful volunteered to do the attendance for competitors at the Manly Surf Carnival today – great to see goodwill from the B&B to Manly LSC.

Rumour has it this might be the new attendance system for the B&B starting Monday – thank you Manly LSC for being our guinea pig and especially our B&B helpers – Kelly , Michael, Izzi, Michelle, Anita, Leonie, Lori. Sarah, Cynthia, Libby anyone we’ve missed out!

Anyway… it was a beautiful day for a swim.. not as hot as yesterday’s 46c all time record… it’s all the same in the water!

Say “Hello” to the new Julie…. He’s taken to it like a jimble to an exposed thigh…

The surf carnival had closed the entire beach so the plan was to go to half way… swim back to the point, normal swim to Shelley, back to the point and then in to half way… got all that? easy really…

Tempting to duck in and get a coffee from the little place there…..

So we all swam out to the point where 340 swimmers all went on the word “go”…

…..182 swimmers …. and one submarine…..

Shelley was nice and calm.. (click for a bigger view)

This is a new series … B&B swimmers in action… (a few were wondering what i was doing at first… you can tell by some of the faces)

It was a little cloudy  this morning but vis was still quite good.. Stephen got this amazing school of catfish off the point…

Bet you didn’t know about the Piranha … (just kiddin)

Some more celebs… Ray Romano, Ray Bolger and Ray Parker Jr…

….and last but by no means, least….. our little friend….

January 19, 2013 stats:

Swimmers: 182

6k: 5

Water temp: 21.6c

Jimbles: 1

Verbal requests that maybe we shouldn’t show up to move away from the front of MSLC: 1

(seriously they really thought we might not swim because of the carnival)

AUSTRALIA DAY!

(STRAYA DAY)

SATURDAY, JAN 26

“Where a ‘thong’ is something you wear on your foot”

Straya Day holds the record for the largest number of swimmers turning up on a single day! … It’s like 640 something… and it’s next Saturday! One week to go! There will be some special things happening (stay tuned to this space) so make sure you swim… it’ll be a lot of fun!

Well done to the swimmers who completed the 6k today. Due to the surf carnival,we completed the course with multiple trips from the Point to Shelly and return. There were a few jimbles along the way,but we had good flat water conditions and a little bit of sunshine towards the end.
Note: The last 10k’Challenge’is on Saturday Feb 23.

Well done all the 6Kers. Personally, I find the long swims dificult as a challenge of the mind.
The last one I did, I saw all manner of strange sights – I thought I saw Lucy without Brad,
I thought I saw Julez in a blue cap. I was in serious trouble. hehehe
Good luck to the Miles adventure crew tomorrow, Manly to Bondi – LEGENDS. I hope the conditions are with you all.
Good luck to the racers at tomorrows Warriewood to Monavale. Go Fiona and Brad , Jim, Drinks, Chris and Lucy all set for great times and contenders for medals.
Im in as well with an updated goal of a finish that not in the last 10 for a change.
Michael – the integrity police have questioned if the river swim is a sactioned distance event?
We might let you off this time. hehehe
To the Triad queen and sidekick Lips – I find it is difficult as the persecuted whistleblower. I must stay strong
Lips – you still owe me 1.5 K’s. grrrrrr
Great blog Nick and great photo’s all round.

Another great blog Nick. You are a pro but I love all our Bloggers and their own style! It did seem a bit like that guy was trying to bully us with Jules and Michael away but we won’t be beaten! We will survive!
